This was prompted by another thread with a similar, but different, problem. I have noticed that LR 5 does not automatically recognize my lenses in the Lens Correction panel, the way LR 4 did. They are there in the drop-down lists, but I didn't used to have to select them myself. Also, I have one Tamron lens that it will sometimes have in the drop-down, but at other times it only has a different Tamron model. Anyone else have problems with identifying lenses in LR 5?

(I hate when I screw up the spelling in the title of a thread, since I can't edit it. It is lenses that LR 5 doesn't identify, not lenes.)

I don't have LR5 so can't comment!

But if you meant to say "leans", well, that would be another topic:)!

In the Lens Corrections/Profile panel set it up manually with the Make, Model and Profile. The "Setup" will read "Custom". Open this menu and at the bottom select "Reset Lens Profile Defaults". This will create a default for that lens identification number which should automatically be set for that lens. Sigma and Tamron often use the same codes, but generally for lenses with similar focal length ranges so, since you are unlikely to have two lenses with the same coverage, that usually isn't a problem after you have set the default.

I did some checking after reading this thread and I have a problem with the lens correction tab as well. I'm not using LR, but ACR8.1. I use only Canon lenses and have ACR set up for to have defaults for camera serial number and camera ISO setting. I had made defaults but now see the Lens Correction tab is not finding the correct lens. It only sees what lens I had when making the defaults. If I choose Setup - Auto the the Make, Model, and Profile are empty. Once I choose Canon under the Make it finds the correct lens. Of course that changes Setup to Custom. If I choose the Save New Lens Profile Defaults then it always chooses that lens regardless of what lens I shot with. Shouldn't Auto select the correct Canon lens?

It seems that using the defaults for camera ISO setting is what's screwing it up.

Same for me, I can select mine from the pull down but it doesn't do it automatically like 4 did. I assume it's not a huge deal as I assume you can easily import and select all and apply it.

Or not. I have decided that my four main lenses (70-200L f/4, 100L Macro, 85 f/1.8 and Tamron 24-70) are all good enough without distortion correction that I have stopped doing it automatically and use it only when there are architectural lines in the subject. Any operation that involves moving, interpolating and redrawing pixels inevitably involves some loss of sharpness. Any application worth its salt will do some remedial sharpening as part of its correction workflow and normally you won't see the loss of IQ, but these things are cumulative and in an image that is heavily worked they add up, so why do it if it isn't necessary?
