Sony Alpha rumors is stating with SR5 confidence that Sony is going to announce a new camera similar to the old Contax that could move the sensor plane to AF for just about any lens. So now people with Canon or Nikon glass can use it on a Sony body with theoretically high-end AF. If they make it work well, I could see this as being VERY desirable with people shooting Nikon and Canon mount Zeiss primes. :D:D

I would post a link, but I always get virus alerts visiting that website with my PC, so I just visit it with my iPhone, which is pretty much virus proof for web surfing. You've been warned!

Now, here's something I was wondering. If I set my lens to minimum focusing distance and put it on a camera like the new Sony, doesn't that allow it to now focus closer like adding extension tubes? Also, doesn't that now allow me to focus stack a normal lens from macro focus distance to infinity using both in camera focus and lens focus? That is usually the only drawback to extension tubes!

I'm personally waiting to see how the NEX FF turns out, which would be a great back country landscape body that can easily take Nikon and Canon glass. But this new rumor sounds very exciting for so many reasons in innovating and disrupting the current digital camera market. This is a Zeiss owner's wet dream.

Very exciting!

Here's hoping full-frame and 36+ megapixels. Can't wait to use the TS-E lenses and Nikon 14-24 in front of the same Exmor sensor!

Hope Sony actually puts this camera on the market before the winner of "the first person set foot on Mars" left Earth (I believe that is the biggest scam in modern history anyway).

question... if this can autofocus canon mount mf primes, can it also autofocus mf primes that have an eos adapter with af chip on them?? if so, is an af chip even necessary?

i hope it can work with an eos adapter lol. these discounted, vintage primes will even be better for the money lol.

The AF chips dont provide auto focus. Just focus confirmation.

I imagine its going to be slow as hell on non native lenses.

I'm really excited about their FF NEX!

If they are going to move a sensor around by the distances needed to focus, I would rather be able to change out a sensor for extreme low light - bit pixel, extreme resolution/bright light.

If you see me with a wrench - call 911. 5d3, T3i, 17-55 2.8, 50 1.8, 70-200 2.8 L II, 24-105 f4. YN 565, Precision Lupe attached to hacked extended eyecup (no sticky frame) - old enough to have owned an original F-1

Why would the ability of a Sony camera to AF Canon lenses make a difference to people who own Zeiss glass? Canon mount Zeiss glass doesn't have AF motors to be able to AF anyway. I can however see where the ability to mount Canon glass on a Sony body could be advantageous, especially since glass investments are what keep a lot of shooters from switching brands. Lot's of Canon shooters would love to get their hands on an Exmor sensor but can't afford to switch all their lenses around. If this is true Sony could be changing the game.
I'm assuming this would require a adapters of course.
