Masked plover Queensland, Australia - Ugly or what?!

Here we have the Masked Plover, AKA the Masked Lapwing (Vanellus miles) on the Esplanade

The mask is rather leathery and very distinctive - they are not pretty but rather fascinating in a sinister way

Thank you Lester, They are a real oddity, the "mask" looks like loose fitting aged leather and wobbles about when they move!
