Was browsing the garden for interesting critters, found these munching on the Oleander bush:

Yeah, that's the rear-end. Interesting "feet" on some of the "legs".

Here's a shot with two variations: one type with black spots, the other with white:

Anyone have any idea what the different colors mean? Different instar phases?

Having a closer look nearer the bottom of the plant, I found momma (Polka-Dot Wasp Moth) hunkered down underneath a leaf, looking ready to lay more eggs, I'm guessing.

This shot is not as sharp as I would like - it was challenging getting the camera+lens+flash into the foliage enough to actually get the critter in view.

Thanks Ishrani and Lester!

Here's another shot from yesterday, showing one of them mid-munch:

You can see the "spikes" are almost feathery, not really spiky, which is why they are OK to handle, apparently.

Just don't eat them - they absorb the poisonous aspects of the oleander (a very poisonous plant), from what I've read.

The plant is not getting denuded, but it certainly has a few fewer leaves than last week...

Its the "apparently" part that always prevent me to touch any of those cute caterpillars :)

great series, that feathery makes you want to touch them :)
