Just wanted to do a quick sanity check on this deal to make sure I'm not missing anything here.

There's a local photography studio and the owner is parting out his lighting kit. Basically he was looking for $600 for 4 alien bees b400's. They look to be in decent shape, include original bag/case, and all have the covers to protect the bulbs. I offered him $500 and he accepted.

I'm supposed to go take a look at them and test in a couple hours but before I do I wanted to get a 2nd opinion on whether this seemed like an alright deal for the b400s. Also wanted to see if there was anything specific I should be looking/testing for on these?

Yes, good deal. Earlier versions of the AB's had issued with loud fans. I would make sure all the fans are working, at the very minimum. Just check the functions of all of them. You're getting a good deal if they all work as they should.

Yup, if you're getting them for $125 each, you're doing alright. Resale of the AB400's should be in the neighborhood of $175 each or a little higher.

Thanks guys. Just picked them up. They all worked fine. Not sure how loud the fans are supposed to be but they aren't exactly silent. Seemed ok to me. Came with a hard carrying case that holds all of them . power cords of various lengths, dish reflectors (one that holds gels/filters).

Have to say I'm pretty happy. If I need more light as a main I plan on putting two with decent sized modifiers side by side to make one big soft light as I've seen Joel Grimes do in his Lit up series. I still need to pick up two more lightstands and some proper softboxes (all I have right now are brolly boxes)
