Hi guys

Question about upgrading software that was downloaded. In the old days, when performing an upgrade, I always had to have a copy of the older version on disc to verify I could upgrade.

How is that done now? For example, if I download LR5 and then someday LR6 is available, how do you show ownership of the old version, especially if you no longer have it installed for any reason?

Thanks
Michael

What I am looking at now:
I am going to start with the 24-70 2.8 glass. Some R body to pair it with.

The upgrade will search your computer to make sure you have the correct copy. It will work fine. I just did it with Lightroom 4 to Lightroom 5. I had also did the upgrade from 3 to 4. Adobe will keep you info in case you have a crash or something. No worries! Take care, Jeff

In the case of Lightroom and other Adobe products, Adobe track your purchases and licenses. It is a simple call to customer service to have them send you a license key that will work even if the old software is not installed. Personally I track all of the licenses that I purchase to help to avoid the upgrade entitlement questions.

Even when a program is uninstalled the registration number remains in the Registry. Of course, it is not in a new computer, but if the LR installer does not find the old number, it will say, "I see you are using an upgrade number. I'm sure you wouldn't try to cheat, so please be a good chap and type in your old registration key here." Well, maybe not so politely, but you get the idea. So always save your numbers.
