Dayummm! The 70-300 L jumped to $1599 on B&H and it was $1399 just last month. I guess I know what I'm NOT getting for my birthday.

Looks to me like some rebate will start. Prices always tend to go up right before rebates.

About 3 weeks ago, I paid $1049 for the EF 70-200 f/4L IS and it's now at $1349 but on the Flip side, yesterday I ordered a the EF-S 17-55 f/2.8 for $879, a couple Hundred Dollars lower than what it was a couple of weeks back. Prices are all over the place...............

70-300L normal selling price has been $1599 for quite awhile. It has had a Rebate of $200 over the past year. Got mine for the $1399 in store while rebates were active. They come and go frequently.

All these price fluctuations makes one believe that lens pricing is quite the scam.

Talley - good to see you are "voting" with your wallet. :)

There was definitely a price jump, $100-$300 on some of the popular L lenses.

Perhaps Canon lenses are like mortgage rates here in Canada -? they have to go up so that they can come down and in so doing, create added interest / excitement.

Yen is weak compared to Dollar. I would not buy anything at these current inflated prices. they would simply not hold. there will be new round of rebates, and drop in prices. You just have to buy at the right time. I paid 1850 for my 70-200 2.8 IS II, 1250 fro my 70-300L, 1300 for my 24 1.4L II, 1800 for my 24 tseII, 1350 for my 16-35II, all brand new, all from b&h or adorama over the last 2-3 years.
