My first real attempt at shooting in M mode. I discovered that while it can be tricky getting the settings just so, it does allow for a great deal more to be done in post processing which took up a tonne of time thanks to the massively backlit stage at the air show.

I think that the below turned out ok for my first attempts, but would love any feedback you could suggest dealing with shooting backlit subjects.

Looks like the light was total crap. My only experience is from a particular R/C event where the planes are a much smaller part of the frame & I expose for them as best I can vs the sky. It blows the sky out most of the time but at least I have some colour in the planes. Fortunately that event has moved to a new location where the sun is more or less behind me most of the day.

Good work Attila, love the harrier!
Overcast skies are brutal, what I do is end up using spot metering and adjust depending on the airframes (i.e. darker painted frames need more stops) will usually be +2/3. It will certainly blow out the sky, but the airframes usually look good.

Lets hope Wings Over Gatineau has MUCH better light than that. Not sure I'd go if it was like that.

Nice Harrier shot. I also like the angle on the Cub; too bad about the light...
