Sometimes this male Costas perches too close to me when I have my 300mm lens mounted. Because he was within the lens minimum focus distance, I had to lean back in order to focus on him. I'm not really complaining though. :D

These were also tricky to shoot because he was under the patio cover in the shade with the yard backlit behind him.

Gene, lol.I do ALOT of leaning backwards when these little ones decide to perch close! Really sweet photos. My two are buzzing all the birds in the birch tree?

Thanks for your comments. I know these don't have the most photogenic backgrounds but I couldn't resist taking them. When I opened the door to my patio and stepped out, it looked as though he was just sitting there waiting for me to take his photograph.

Perhaps some cropping would help draw more attention to the bird. Nice shots nevertheless. I think we can withstand viewing them. :rolleyes:

I see your point. To go that route you would probably want I do some further processing to the background. That decision would be based on your purpose for the photo.
