^ When I make my suet, I add vegetarian dog food( it was left with me from fostering dogs, and I wasn't going to use it for my dogs, so I thought??).So this one really digs for the round bits, lol.leaving all the goodness down below for the juncos, sparrows, finches etc!

Very good Gail. You got a nice angle on the first shot.
Our Woodpeckers are getting fussy these days. They used to land for seeds and bread crumbs, now they hold off until I hang suet out for them!

Lol.mine have never been without, spoiled things;)
Have you ever made your own suet? Its super easy and less than half the cost of store bought, plus you know whats in the mix. They love it.

What a great set. Really like your Pileated shots. I have yet to even attempt a shot of one of them. I have a Hairy Woodpecker that tries to drown out the television. The suet feeder is really close to my open window and he just sits there and chirps!

Wow, nice set Gail. The first shot looks like he's trying to do chinups. ;)

I enjoy watching your woodies-thanks for sharing- wish they would visit me. I'm drilling some holes in my trees to encourage nesting and the red bellies like the suet

Thanks all~

And yep, we have a new 4x4 at the ready, lol. Those big guys like cleaning their huge beaks on the wood, thus taking great splits of wood off with each swipe!

I double the recipe: This IS doubled

2 c Crisco( Or whatever veg lard you have)

2 c peanut butter ( cheap is ok)

1.5 cups flour ( I use whole wheat)

4 cups corn meal

2 cups rolled oats

I add berries...or anything that keeps them digging. I am fortunate to have blackberries here..but as I mentioned, add seeds to the mix.

In a large pot..slowly melt the lard and PB

The add all the rest,,it should look moist, not like cookie dough .

Put into suet sized containers( I used sandwich ones..but I really like the smaller round ones) Plastic ones.

Freeze!

In the rectangular ones, I cut them on the diagonal..so I get 2 for one..it's no melt. Always in the freezer though..
