I know of Photomatrix, from attending a demo. Good for rocks, buildings, building interiors.

What are some others, and what are they good at?

Well HDR is HDR, they are all good at the same things. :)

I personally own both Photomatix and NIK HDR EFEX Pro and I only ever use the NIK tools and prefer them to Photomatic personally.

One fellow at the demo said that. The demonstrator didn't like that. I'll look into NIK.

As you probably guessed, I'm a DSLR newbie. Had a Canon sx160 point and shoot in Manual for 6 months. The DSLR is the Nikon d5100. It was that or the T3i, and the Nikon offered a better deal. Now, to climb the learning curve, again.

(grin) According to both Peterson and Ansel Adams, it isn't the brand of camera, it's the skill and creative soul of the photographer.

Photoshop has a 32 HDR abilities built in, all the major plugin manufacturers have their own products as well (nik, onone, topaz, etc).

If are interested in learning the best way to combine exposures though, you will want to read this:

and possibly purchase these videos from Mr. Bagshaw which will compliment and further explain the techniques described in the above link.

I've been reading the presentations, and there's a problem. I have Windows XP, 32 bit. 2-1/2 gig. Photomatrix requires 64 bit.
NIK Efex requires I have a lot of Adobe software, ouch!

What about standalone stuff that'll run on 32 bit? And DOESN'T require CS5 or CS6 AND Lightroom 5?

No, I don't have the cash to run right out and buy the latest and greatest computer! I just spent those $$ on the camera and supporting gear! So, I gotta live with what I have.

BTW, thanx for the linx. Will continue to explore them.

Checkout SNS-HDR it's a little program people don't talk about much, but I get fantastic results from.

There is a free version that basically just gives you access to the predefined settings through a command line, but the other versions have demos and add a lot of customization!

I like it for more 'realistic' looking results. I have used Photomatrix but never gotten a result I like, and NIK HDR which I like for some photos.

I'm konfoosed.

Photomatix, on their website, sez they require 64 bit. On the website thru HDR Labs, in the fAQ section , they say 32 bit is OK. Which is it?

Can Efex Pro be used standalone, or not?
