Canon Timer Remote Controller TC-80N3 or Equiv

Looking for a timer that will do time lapse, Canon has one for $129 at BH but there appears to be a knockoff that looks exactly the same called Aputure but cannot locate it on Adorama or BH.

There is also the Vello and Phottix but not sure whether these units other than Canon are any good.

I need to order something in the next few days.

Any advice?

The Vello Shutterboss wireless one is solid; I have the TC-80 and the Vello both; The Canon's less bulk, but the Vello is often more convenient.

vello shutterboss wireless like jon the mod link....it can do what you want, not complicated

If I am doing any kind of photography where I am staying near the camera/tripod, I use the TC-80N3. I only use the Shutterboss when I need to be further away. The Shutterboss does not seem to work with the high speed drive mode on the 5D Mk III. It has a setting that will take one frame per second, but if I have the high speed drive mode set on the camera, it will only fire a couple of frames. I mentioned this is another thread, and as someone agreed with me and no one pointed out some mistake I had made, I assume this is just the way it works. If anyone has a solution, I will recant my complaint and sing the praises of the Shutterboss.

Will the Vello Shutterboss work through the hotshoe on a 7D or do you need to use a cable from the receiver to the camera body?

What I've found seem to indicate you need the cable, but I just want to be sure I have it right.

I don't know of any remote releases that work through the hot shoe on Canon cameras; they all require the cable from the receiver to the camera's release socket. Vello supplies one with the release; if you later change cameras (or brands) and need a different one, they sell them inexpensively. The cable can be attached to the receiver for wireless use or directly to the controller unit for use as a wired release.

Let me clarify about the hot shoe - many (not all) wireless remote receivers will sit in the hot shoe; the Vello's does. But they all need to be connected to the camera's remote shutter release port to operate. If the release were able to operate through the hot shoe mount, you'd still need a cable for when you were also using a flash.

great thread ,hears some thing you should not do,i got a grey market tc-80n3,and will not work,the only thing it will do is work as a shutter release,and thats it,if you do buy it,get the one from canon with a warranty card,as for my self i'm still looking for one that works!the sad part is that i paid $80.00 for this piece of s..t on e-bay !!!!

I use the 60D (WTR-C) equivalent of the Satechi wireless remote at http://www.satechi.net …er-remote-control-shutter. $60. Works remotely up to about 50 to 60 feet using radio as opposed to IR which requires line of sight. You can buy off Amazon or B&H, just verify camera compatibility. Explore at Satechi to see the model you need.

I just upgraded from a 40D to 70D and just purchased an eBay timer remote (corded) to work with my new camera. I have used an eBay $20.00 intervalmeter with my 40D for a couple years with no problems.
