ok im a total noob i bought a 60d aniversary bundle a few months ago and i got a sigma 17-50 2.8 os ex and i just got a new to me canon 70-200f4,i cant seem to get a sharp pic from either of them,i mosty use ai focus and i use the middle focus point with metering on evalitive,i use faithful pic and i upped the sat a notch and sharpness 3 notches,i also increased ex comp by 2/3. all my shots seem to be soft and not near as sharp as pics on here, when i first got the sigma i thought it was the prob but now with the f4 i still get poor quiality handhelds,is there some other settings u guys can recomend using for each lens, heres some of the shots first is the f4

On the first picture it looks like your lens is front focusing because the brush on the far left side is in focus and the center is not. The second picture it looks like its motion blur as your shutter speed it too slow for an action photo. you need to bump up your shutter speed to something like 1/500 or pan a little better.

Take Care,
Cheers, Patrick

As Patrick has already said, #2 is a case of shutter speed... look at the branches and dirt at the bottom of the picture - it's all lovely and sharp. #2 is also taken at ISO6400 so you're not going to get really crisp images (in comparison to a lower ISO of course).

#1 could also be suffering slightly from a slow shutter speed... 1/100 at 70mm on a crop body is cutting it fine without IS (unless you have a really stead hand of course)! And again, it's ISO1600 which isn't going to be producing really really sharp images.

You've got a lot of very sharp images on Flickr...
