I notice that sometimes the AF on the tamron 24-70 would stop working. As in if you half press the shutter, the lens motor won't do anything. I had to power cycle the camera for af to resume functional. It has happened indoor, outdoor, cold and hot weather. It usually happens once a day. Obviously I didn't switch to MF by accident. Has this happen to anyone here?

I had it happen a few times with a Tamron 17-50 and removed the lens and put it back on and it seemed to fix it. You might try that. If that doesn't help, I'm guessing something's wrong with the connection.

What about Tamron's six-year warranty?

So I've actually had a few instances where my 6D wouldn't wake up when I half pressed the shutter. I had to press it about 5-6 times before it woke up. Whats funny is it did this on a few different lenses so it rules out any issues with the Tamrons I have. (did it with my 85 also). Now if there is an issue then the good thing is you have the 6 year warranty. Turnaround time is very fast with Tamron with their new 3 day policy.

If it was me I'd spend the $15 on shipping to send it in and have it checked out. Another plus is they will upgrade firmware/clean/check/calibrate it also.

What Talley said. I'd rather have a lens checked out and re-certified by the manufacturer then getting a new one (that may have the same issue anyway) from B&H. Returning it may just put you right back where you are now.
