Buono Estente,

Not posted any dance/theatre stuff for a while due to being in Edinburgh taking loads ... back in Madrid now so probably going to splurge on posts in the coming weeks.

One of the regretful things about living abroad is that it makes it difficult to keep up with old favourites (and long term clients) like 2Faced Dance Company. We tried to arrange a date to pop back and photograph Out Of His Skin but it was never quite on with flights. Still, I finally got to watch and photograph it in Edinburgh. The theme of adrenaline junkies is perfect for this company's physical style of break infused contemporary dance. 2Faced shows are always tricky (but rewarding) to shoot with low (but very nice) lighting (by James Mackenzie) combined with very fast movement from the all-male company.

Since these photos I've changed my post a bit to reduce the noise, but not really had time to back-date everything. Any other thing you'd like to C and/or C on, welcome ...

Boutros, Boutros Ghali,

Owain.

Hey Owain --

These are great shots, especially given the lighting challenges! Interestingly, I viewed these first on my home computer and could hardly see ANY detail. Looking at them on my work computer, I obviously have the brightness cranked up here, because they look MUCH better! Goes to show how relative these things can be, when viewed on-line.

Cheers!
Al

Hello Al,

Definitely, the screen and its settings will make a huge difference, especially when so much of these images in particular is pretty much black ...

#4 was pushing it, and I'd like it brighter but any more and the noise becomes really problematic, but I did want to keep it for what it (just about) captures. But this section is lit with about two cross lanterns and #3 is only lit with three par cans from the back bar. I do really like the lighting, and I think it suits the piece - especially when viewed as an audience member - despite its challenges ... shooting theatre and dance you sort of have to accept the challenges, but 2Faced shows are always a particular test.

Thanks for looking, twice on different computers, and commenting.

Cheers,

Owain.
