Total cheese. Its one of those things that appeals to you staring out, but there are so few instances where it actually works.

99.99% are cheesy effects.

It's the rare image that it really helps. Yours is not one of those rare images.

I have to agree with Titus. There are very rare times when I personally like a selective color photo.

I'll add the other .01% to make it 100% cheesy. I think the bw conversion would probably look nice for this one with some work. But as for the selective color, no. Not at all.

One of the major issues with this is there is no consistency to how you applied the color. Only part of the water and part of the grass got the treatment. What is the visual plan here> I agree with Larry that a complete b/w conversion may serve it better.

Sorry, doesn't work at all. I'm one of the few that appreciates selective color, by the way.

Selective color processing is very easy to do with most of the photo software. As long as the program has layers, an eraser or layer masks. That way you can be very precise as to what gets colored. You could use Photoshop Elements or Paint Shop Pro to name a couple. Good luck!

As soon as I read "selective color" I shivered.
I have only seen a few images where it works and doesn't look tacky. This just looks odd. Doesn't really work.
As said, get a photo editing program and mess around with layers. Then you can accurately apply selective coloring.

Had a look through your flickr, some good stuff. buuuut.. Keep an eye on your horizons! try and keep things straight horizontally!

If you're itching to edit that image, try cropping it to (maybe) improve the composition a bit, and then straightening it.

And -- after you've done all that -- only THEN maybe, possibly consider something like selective color. Consider. But don't actually do it. Please.

I think selective color works great for super stylized dramatic, tragic, murderous, bloody, terror types of shots, but other than that it's not really emphasizing anything much. I think selective color could be useful in something like a photo of something dead and bloody, where the blood is emphasized, like a father and son gutting a deer or something, but even then, I would not completely desaturate any part of the frame..maybe very dull color but not B&W. Using color gradients to B&W is kind of like taking away the Art aspect of photography and blatantly telling the viewer to "LOOK HERE!" It only works in a few subjects I think. Otherwise it's like the sun bleached the color out of the paper of a decent photo.
