I have a pair of the YN-662s and another pair on the way. I don't understand the purpose of this new model.
Inform me.

It would allow you to move the flash controls out of the camera menu and onto the LCD panel, which is always active. If you have an older camera some dont have the wireless control menu (5D etc), and lastly since the TX's communicate with each other you can do manual power controls over individual transmitters. The canon wireless system is pretty much limited to controlling power in groups as its blind, there is no communication back to the master until the pre-flash fires so the master has no idea how many slaves are connected. The radio triggers allow two way communication but the original 622 didnt fully utilize this.

Its main purpose is to allow for full control of the 622's on cameras that dont have flash control menus, like the 5D for instance. Or for people who would prefer to see the controls on top of the camera.

But can the other stuff be done in camera? Since this is just a rumored prototype I'm not sure if they have added any extra functionality.

Definitely not worth reporting. gonzogolf wrote in post #16531594 Since this is just a rumored prototype I'm not sure if they have added any extra functionality. Oops. I thought this was bumped because the second article was new and an announcement of the real product. I see now it is a few months old. None that I can find yet. The most recent article in the thread was september and it showed what the prototype nikon would look like. It said that the canon would follow.
