I have a pair of the YN-662s and another pair on the way. I don't understand the purpose of this new model.

Inform me.

A couple of things. It would allow you to move the flash controls out of the camera menu and onto the LCD panel, which is always active. If you have an older camera some dont have the wireless control menu (5D etc), and lastly since the TX's communicate with each other you can do manual power controls over individual transmitters. The canon wireless system is pretty much limited to controlling power in groups as its blind, there is no communication back to the master until the pre-flash fires so the master has no idea how many slaves are connected. The radio triggers allow two way communication but the original 622 didnt fully utilize this.

Makes me want to order one today. I have two pairs of the 622's and 4 speedlites so an extra transmitter would be nice.

Gonzo,
I agree, I think its going to be a very useful tool with the 622s.

This will be brilliant for multiple 622's and so much easier to control too.

Just have to wait now.

Yes. Its main purpose is to allow for full control of the 622's on cameras that dont have flash control menus, like the 5D for instance. Or for people who would prefer to see the controls on top of the camera.

so is their any increased flash control functionality for owners of cameras with in camera control?

obviously the SuperSync thing is new. But can the other stuff be done in camera?

Since this is just a rumored prototype I'm not sure if they have added any extra functionality.

I wish I could change the title of this thread. Can I? It comes across as a little fighty. :)

Click the "little red exclamation mark" in the bottom left hand corner of your post. This will allow you to report it with a request to change the title to the mods. :D

Edit to add: If you hover over the button it says something about if it's spam or inappropriate use this button to report it. The suggestion is how I was told to do it on a different forum. I needed to change a title. I was told to report it with a message of what the new title should be. A mod on the forum said it's the best way to change a title short of PMing the mod in charge of the subforum you're in. I imagine it would work similarly here.

Or you could try to "edit" click the "go advanced" button and try to change the title.

Hopefully something out of all of this was helpful...

Thread title is fine. Definitely not worth reporting.

The mods have lives outside of potn:D

Oops. I thought this was bumped because the second article was new and an announcement of the real product. I see now it is a few months old.

None that I can find yet. The most recent article in the thread was september and it showed what the prototype nikon would look like. It said that the canon would follow.
