Same as I wear in the summer + thermal underwear, black thinsulate glove liners (not much good but can still use the camera), fleece jacket and a Shapka on my head. Note the Shapka is a real one not synthetic, so it needs to be removed every 15 minutes or so to let my head cool down!

Life is for living, cameras are to capture it (one day I will learn how!).

Touque and neck tube
t-shirt, fleece jacket, old ski-patrol gore-tex shell.
cargo pants with fleece liners.
Some sort of boots.
pair of light gloves.

That is usually good down to -30C

Why go all complicated and expensive?

around coastal california, t shirt and long pants. maybe a jacket some days.

up in the mountains or the middle of the country, pretty much snowboarding gear, plus extra mid layers if i'm anticipating a lot of waiting around/not being active.

i shot a rally in michigan in january and that was pretty miserable. between 0 and 15ºF most of the time. even hand warmers only warmed me up to freezing.

I'd be most interested in hand wear. Do you try to operate your camera through the gloves or take them off?

Or do you wear those fisherman flip mittens?

I don't own gloves. I don't own a single pair of long pants. I have 2 shirts with sleeves. I have a light windbreaker jacket for the bad days.

I live in Florida.

...and I hate it. Really.

I am sure I have whatever winter gear might be needed. I was stationed 10 miles from the Canadian border at Sault Ste Marie Michigan while in the USAF and had to go out what ever the conditions. I have never needed all the gear I have.

Wool for life. Still warm when wet, will dry fast, wont catch fire. There is a reason why sheep wears it. I hate cotton for the life of me. And I still chuckle when I see the crab fishers on discovery wearing cotton on the bearing sea.

Since I'm from Norway, perhaps we have a bigger selection in wool fabrics, so I dont see any reason to wear cotton as long° its not 20°+ and no rain. And fleece is still cotton or plastic (polyester). Get one in wool!

Thats it! :)

Shorts, polo shirt and some sort of sandals. I don't do flip flops. ;)

If I know I'm going to be kneeling a lot or if the mosquitoes will be unbearable, I might wear long pants though I do have stuff to keep them away as long as I remember to wash my hands so I don't melt my camera.

Winters in Florida are so rough. <eg> (evil grin)

I operate the camera with the mittens on. If a camera has too small buttons to do this, the camera doesn't suits my needs.

Even at 20°C or more, a thin wool t-shirt (like the ones from Devold) is way better than one made of cotton

If it's really cold, Outdoor Research has glove liners which are really thin but save your hands when touching bare metal.

I like wool for relaxed campfire and camping, but in terms of breathability and wicking properties it was surpassed by combination fabrics IMHO. In my experience it breathes better, feels drier and dries faster than wool stuff I had including merino and normal sweaters.

This stuff kept me dry in multi day skiing trips without a fire. Wool would not work the same way.
