Hi, Just bought Lightroom for the first time. Up to now I've been using Corel Paint Shop Pro. Thought I'd make the move to LR5. I haven't installed it yet, and am wondering if there is any instructional books you'd recommend. I really need to properly setup a catalog and workflow as well as using it for editing.

Thanks for any help.

I have a couple of books but find myself using youtube more often than not. Search for "beginner lightroom tutorial" to get started. Then search for more in-depth topics as the need arises.

Adobe TV is an excellent resource, especially the short and specific videos by Julieanne Kost are good if you have a question about a certain tool or feature, but I prefer Laura Shoe's free videos for clear and simple explanations.
Among paid-for videos I have learned a lot from the set from the Luminous Landscape and enjoyed the conversational style between Michael Reichmann and Jeff Schewe, but for clear and enlightening explanation George Jardine can't be beat.

There is a series of webinars by Gavin Seim that I found very helpful. The link to the first webinar is below:

Most important thing is to select what drive/location you want the catalogue stored when you first install it. If you don't then it will select a place your for you. Then there are all the suggestions posted on this thread. Great videos on the Adobe site and youtube.

Tim Grey has a video of his "Getting Started With Lightroom 5" that he did at the B&H Event Space on YouTube.

He starts with names for the various folders your existing images are in through to metadata you do and don't want to add when you import every existing image into the Lr catalog. Well worth the two hours to watch. Then there is a second Lr 5 video on there. Some of his Lr 4 videos there are also worth watching as most things have not changed from 4 to 5.
