Hello Everyone!

I have been a long time lurker, but I am in need of some help.

I currently have an XSi that I am looking upgrade. Even-though I am pretty new to photography, I feel like the XSi is impairing my abilities. The ISO performance is pretty crappy and the auto focus isnt very good. I get a lot of pictures that are completely out of focus / noisy.

I own a 50MM F1.8 Mark I, and 85 F1.8, and an 18-55 STM.

I am debating to update to a new body, but I am totally lost on what to buy (budget is around 600 to 700 dollars, but less is better).

I debating between a t3i (~ mid $300 refurbished from canon loyalty )or 60d ($575 refurbished from canon loyalty), or wait till the 70d gets cheaper (the wait will be difficult).

get a 60d. $200 dollar difference and you will see the difference. 60d is a nice camera. 70d wont drop in price for a while i think.

If you had asked last week it was $100 cheaper. You can also get a T3i for $499. I have both. I like each of them.
Then if you ask these guys,

They'll have you buying a $4000 body. 60d is probably a good choice.
But the T3i is no slouch either,
I've made som good photos with it and continue to do so.

Nope, most are low to zero shutter counts, and they come with a 1 year warranty and you might also get a free DG200 bag.

Again you get the same 1 year warranty as a new one, and most likely what you will get is a new one, and you get a $40 Canon bag (and a nice one at that).

I'm not arguing, but how is it new if its sold as refurb?

Don't know about cameras as such but with any electronic goods as soon as a customer opens the box/takes it home etc. Then returns it later. They have to reset it to factory settings and sell as a refurb.

the 60D is an extremely nice camera and honestly I think everyone is right the 70D won't drop in price for a while so getting a 60D seems like the most sensible option in the current circumstances

Body:50D gripped Magic Lantern'd

The camera is just a tool - it is not responsible for the picture.

Because Canon receives returns for all kinds of reasons and they sell those back through their refurb store. It could be a customer bought it and returned it because they realized they spent too much, or it was more than they could handle, etc. Most of the bodies I have bought from the CLP (5 now I think) all had less than 100 or 200 shutter counts on them, and not a mark. Only 1 was more used than that.

Canon receives them, checks them out, if they need reconditioning, they will, toss the factory box, pull down a refurb box, and put all the goodies inside, and on the shelf it goes for the refurb online store and CLP customers that call in.

I paid $2540 for my 5D3 shipped and taxed, along with a $40 bag, and it had 178 shots on it. Looked brand new, smelled brand new, those test shots could have been from Canon, who knows. But the money saved went to other things.

I guess I'm just super OCD. I don't want something that someone potentially used for two weeks and then returned it, then the retailer sent it back to canon to zero out all the settings. It's a used piece that has all the settings cleared. But man people, as Ive stated have had great luck. I'm OCD, and for $100 more on a big money item, ill just get new. Everyone is different.

^^ better explanation right there ^^

Most issues with any electronic goods can be fixed with a reset. Lots of electronic goods are bought then returned hardly used because the person who bought them changed their mind.

If it was a mechanical fault, you still have warranty so it's a win/win situation.
