CF Memory Options

I just picked up a minty 5Dc and currently only have 1 CF card but a large assortment of SD cards that I used on my 1D2. Has anyone tried the CF adapters that an SD card can be slipped into? If I didn't have so many SD cards it might just be easier to purchase a few CF cards but looking at some other options...thanks!

Adapters seem to never be a great/reliable option. Retail on a decent SanDisk 16GB CF Card is $50, and BB will match price if they are selling for more. Pick up a 16GB and you'll be happier i think.

I had a SD -> CF adapter for a while, I never got decent performance out of it. Even on single shot it took forever to offload the images onto the SD. Could have at least partly been the SD card so YMMV.

I too prefer CF cards to adapters, memory is cheap nowadays.

Remember that the 5D is quite old, so you don't need to burn your money on the latest and greatest CF cards capable of huge transfer speeds - the 5D will still not be able to use the extra speed.

So one of the cheaper Sandisk CF alternatives should work fine.

Unless you see a trusted review that tells that a specific SD -> CF adapter is very fast, I wouldn't bet too much on that path.

I can find no advantage with the faster cards with my 5Dc except for downloading. A 133x card is more than enough and, as it does not write big files, large capacity is not an issue. 4 GB gives a decent number of shots but as cards are cheaper now a medium speed 8 to 16GB card should be plenty for normal use.
Just checked my 5Dc and a 4GB card gives around 240 images - that's quite a lot of shooting with this camera.
P.S. I really like the images this camera gives even compared to more modern cameras I have/have had.

Even a 32g 400X Transcend CF Card will only run you $43.95 at B&H and hold a
lot of RAW photos, so that your biggest worry when you go out for the day is,
do you have enough batteries :-)

What is the largest capacity CF card that a 5Dc can use?

There's no practical limit, AFAIK; certainly 64 GB is usable. However, considering how you can get around 1400 RAW images on a 16 GB card, I wouldn't go much beyond that unless you're going to be away from a computer for a very long time.

1400 raw files on one card is still quite a lot of eggs in the same basket.

The nice thing is, you don't always have to fill a 32G card, but you have the capacity if and when
you might need it. I use 64G cards, which I never fill, unless I'm on Holidays. They work perfectly
in my old 300D, 30D, 40D and 7D.

I have two of these, with no issues. Lots of bang for the buck.

I just purchased a Transcend 16GB on fleabay for $17 shipped...supposedly new but considering I normally use 4gb SD cards I have plenty of headroom.

I just got a 7D and had to buy a CF card before a trip with my kids....I got a Lexar Platnum II 8gb 200x for like 39.00 @ target - Only reason I snagged it is this was more-or-less one of the best options around my town. Wal-Mart had a SanDisk 8gb for 40.00 and of course bestbuy has the 4gig sandisk for 33.00.

From now I will look online/Craigslist for my CF cards. But again I have a spare 2gb in the bag for now.
