I didn't bother with a screen protector on my 5D III, since it's Gorilla Glass.

I was carrying my camera and my tripod head tapped the back of the camera, now there is a tiny (3 mm or so) scuff mark on the screen.

Totally functional, and not THAT big of a deal, but it's definitely not as scratch resistent as I thought.

And I thought "Oh well, I'll just order a replacement cover part", only to find out, it's not replaceable like on the 5D II. You'd have to send it in for an entire new screen.

Oh well. I just ordered a plastic stick on screen protector.

I take good care of my stuff, so this bugs me. Just need to remember I bought it to take images, not to ogle over it's pristine condition.

Still... urgh. Get a stick on protector!

I stopped a while ago doing it. Haven't had one on my phone in years.

I had to put one on my Fuji X100s, that screen is very soft.

At least the tiny scuff isn't in the center. In the bright light I can see some micro scratches on the surface, those didn't really bug me. This actually blocks the light.

Now I have this, and a spec in the viewfinder. Time to get a new camera :) Not!

Spec in the viewfinder is inevitable. I wouldn't worry about it. I use the vello screen protectors. Only drawback to them is on some models you cannot close the articulating screens, I don't do that anyway.

That's kind of a sickening feeling actually.

I know. I go to great lengths to avoid getting doored. my newest car is a year old and it's got one very slight blip on a rear fender.

I use a protector on my phone but never on a camera. scratching the screen on my camera wouldn't bother me nearly as much as getting a door ding..

I remember when I first bought my Golf Tdi. Jet black. It was as clean as a whistle. I parked it on my street that my wife and I had just moved to. I came out the next morning and there was a scratch on the drivers side front to rear. I think I wanted to cry and scream at the same time. Tried everything to make it look better. Funny thing is that that th cleaner it is, the less noticeable. Don't ask me how. It's like a hairline. Bastards.

I just backed my pristine Grand Cherokee up into a concrete post last week. This has not been a good two weeks.

I got you beat...

Years ago, my expectant wife and I decided to buy a family vehicle so we bought a brand-new Grand Voyager with the entertainment system, captain seats, etc (back then in 1994 that was big deal, now that kind of setup is the norm). We signed the papers, and drove out of the town we went to buy it. As we went down the main drag (3 lane wide), we watched in horror as across the street from us, a guy pulls out in front of an oncoming truck. They spin around, and the truck is so dazed, he doesn't apply the break and he starts to come at us. I pull up on the curb and couldn't go any further, and watched as his truck skidded down the side of our new van from the sliding door area down to the rear bumper.

We went home and parked our new car in the back where we couldn't look at it. My wife gave birth 3 days later, but just about gave birth there in the parking lot when this happened. Memories....

I also managed somehow to scuff the top plate on my 7d.

I was so annoyed. Anyway I remember a tip on this forum of using toothpaste to clean scratches.

Well it worked :D I gently rubbed some Colgate whitening toothpaste onto the top plate and as if by magic the scruff marked vanished and is now as good as new.

I am not sure though if it will work on the 5d3 rear screen though?

Surely the scratch is not on the screen but rather on the protective film Canon use to protect the screen? I've read that protective films only protect the existing protective layer.
