This shot was on an earlier rebel unit with a Sigma 18-200 with a tripod and remote cable trigger

Turn editing on so other people can give you examples....

What was your white balance? Might want to play around with that to make the sky blue maybe? Not a bad shot tho.

some of us have gotten in trouble for just doing a quick edit, but.... I still do it thats why you come to critique

The problem the OP has that there was too much ambient light and too much smoke coming off the fireworks. With less stray light the sky would have been blacker contrasting better with the actual firework.
