Hello all,
This is the first time I have really gone out and shot the milky way. I live on Grand Forks AFB in North Dakota. According to most dark sky maps I have some pretty clear skies just to the west of me. The other night I headed out there around 11:00pm and started to get set up when I realized I left my dang tripod on the table at home. Not wanting to drive all the way home I just winged it. What I am really looking for here is some tips and tricks and advice for actual composition and if anyone wants to take a stab at post processing and post what steps you took to achieve the final image that would be awesome. Also I only shot in JPEG, I ment to switch to RAW but I was already heated for forgetting my tripod and it just slipped my mind. I was shooting on a T4i with a Canon 17-40 f4L and a Sigma 30mm f1.4 but I cant remember what shots I took with what lens and to be honest I have not bothered to look yet. I know i was favoring the 17-40 for most of the night though.
I have 3 pics but im not quite sure how you want them posted so I will link to them and if you want them another way please just let me know. I resized one just to show for now but i really want to try to get the colors to pop more. I have Photoshop CS6 and Lightroom 4 so if you process in either of those I will be able to mimic your directions for future shots. Thanks again everyone! here is the pic I want to focus on the most then the links to all three you can download. (side note i was forced to resize the pic that is posted full size pic is available in the the links.)
