Street Photo in N.Y?

Next Week me and some friends are going to New York. Going to be lovely!

Most of us LOVE photography! Sp this is going to be really nice! (To bad B&H are closed while we are there )

But some questions popped in our heads since we are from Sweden and really don't know everything about US laws etc.

About Street Photo: Is there any law or anything prohibiting us from taking pictures of people on the streets? (of course photo-etiquette will be followed as usual)

Any thing other to think about in New York (and some in New Jersey) while taking photos?

Good questions Jocce, I am not from NY but have been there many times with my camera.

1. Yes photo-etiquette is key. If you are in areas like Times Square and other tourist areas you should be fine. Many times you will find some rather interesting characters just performing in the streets. MANY photographers around you should blend right in
2. being foreign please be aware of your surroundings. Keep your grear close to your person and your valuables secure.
3. NY can be a very dangerous city, use common sense, stay in the tourist areas and dont venture down residential streets (Sorry N.Y. residents
4. Travel in groups.
5. No US laws are going to bother you unless you start being overly intrusive around government buildings.
