Hello

Out of the camera's built-in noise reduction options, which ones only apply to jpgs and which apply to RAW images as well?

Canon eos7D | Canon 50mm 1.4 | Canon 17-55mm 2.8 | Sigma 70-200mm 2.8 | Yongnuo 565ex | Yongnuo yn-468 II | Canon ef28-135mm 3.5/5.6 | Canon ef-s 55-250mm 4.0/5.6

There are only 2 NR options, one is used for really long exposures where for each exposure of x seconds, it will take a dark frame for the same x seconds. I think that might affect the raw.

The other where you have 4 settings for high ISO NR is stored as metadata against the raw, and if you use DPP, it will honor your camera settings on the raw, but you can change those values at will under the NR tab. Other raw converters ignore the high ISO NR settings from the camera. The JPGs are obviously affected by both settings.

I leave "Long Exposure NR" turned off. If I need it, I'll be shooting raw anyway. If shooting JPG, standard works fine for me if I am at ISO 3200 or lower. Above that you are better off shooting raw, where the NR settings don't matter. I assume your T2i is roughly the same as my 60D when it comes to ISO/noise performance. Exposure and subject matter will affect your results.

Dedicated APS-c shooter. Gripped 60D, 60 2.8, 10-22, 15-85, Σ70-200 OS and a big white something or other! Plus a 5D w/28-75.

That would be "High ISO NR", and not "Long Exposure NR". The latter is for long exposure times.

Just want to warn you that there is really no High ISO NR off for the latter bodies since the 1D3 or so. Even the "disabled" option means that the in-camera JPG engine will still be doing NR of some sort at least at the higher ISOs like 1600+. So both camera and DPP will be doing some sort of NR. Just an fyi.

I was not clear. My 60D has an option called "Long Exposure NR". I leave that off.

Next topic.
If I am shooting jpg, Standard HIGH ISO NR, works fine at 3200 or below. Above that, I will shoot raw so I have more latitude in processing.

I see that I did run both of them together. Thanks, Teamspeed, for clarifying my muddy waters.
