I have a canon 7d and I want a bigger device to control and review pictures and I'd be using my ipad mini and the camranger device and app please let me know if this works before I go and spend $750 on accessories thanks!

;)

Anyhow, that's quite a bit of cash for control/live view.

Personally, I'd have to be content with the iPad camera connection kit:

or an EyeFi

yeah sorry about that misunderstanding.. anyways arent both those things for transporting pictures to the camera really fast? the cam ranger seems to control everything but ive never used it so

Yeah, you don't get control with the camera kit, or eye-fi.... I guess I don't see the need for it when all of the gear is right there.

If I were needing to shoot somewhat remotely, using some USB extension and the camera was in a place that I couldn't easily get to... and I needed to make those changes, then the Ranger would make sense to me... but I've never needed to do anything like that.

yeah, same, im just going to be shooting studio pictures of mountain bikes for a shop and i want to be able to review the photos on a larger screen right there for me and the owner instead of moving my camera uploading files to the computer etc.

Sounds to me like the alternatives I posted would be much better suited for the price then... even better may be tethered shooting with Lightroom on a large screen monitor - that's my preferred solution.

This is true... I've heard of some people getting it to work with CF to SD card adapters. Personally, I don't know if I would trust the reliability of this solution. I'd go with the camera connection kit or Lightroom tethering.

I sometimes tether my 5dIII to Lightroom using a mini usb (camera) to usb (computer) cable as mentioned. Then just fire Lightroom up and start a tethered capture. You can trip the shutter from the computer.

It's simply using the Lightroom program to tether your camera to a computer. You connect the camera just as you usually would - live images show up on screen as you take them.

~3 seconds after you snap the pic using RAW. Close enough.
