Love the idea as well but let me offer a suggestion (and ditto on the sensor thing!)....

You have a great leading line with the sand and since you aren't shooting action, you could position yourself wherever you wished. Had you moved several steps (or maybe a few more) to your left, you could have used that water line to lead to your subject. Perfect setup for a rule of thirds crop and you then have a very strong image from a composition standpoint. Its a nice image but to me, this is a great snapshot when it could have been a great photograph. Not trying to harsh on you, just trying to help.

Scott,

many thanks!

no worries on "Not trying to harsh on you, just trying to help" :)
I am semi-retired doctor. You don't get anywhere in medicine without being an "apprentice" (we call them medical students, interns, residents, fellows, etc) first. You only get to where you are going professionally because someone took the time and effort to guide you, nudge you, reprimand if necessary, etc
so I understand that constructive criticism is the best thing one photographer can do for another....

so many thanks! and I do see your points clearly and they are very helpful!!

William

William, glad you took it how it was intended. By the way, the processing you did is very very nice. Love to hear more about it if you cared to share.

yes, of course!

I do pretty much everything I possibly can in LR 4.4 and only rarely go to PS or any external editor of that manner

I love to add different RGB color curves, such as "rose colored beach" and "deep purple" for some of my beach shots.

For this image though, I went to my old faithful--- Half tones/split tones
I added a coral looking effect to Highlights only
to the shadows, I just neutralized the cast that was present, I forget what color it was but if green I add magenta, if blue added yellow, etc to the shadows only.

I also have Nik software suite (Now sold by Google for $149, used to be $500+) which is the best buy outside of LR itself. After you perfect everthing in LR, export RAW to NIk to sharpen and denoise, and it is perfect usually just with their standard settings. You also get other great programs such as the best HDR and the best B&W out there.

if you have purchased any other Nik software in last 2-3 years I think you get to upgrade to entire suite for free (if you register the link will be sent to you)

You really got me thinking now. I do everything in ACR and PS. More and more though, I hear folks using LR exclusively. I'm all about reducing workflow if possible so I may have to branch out a bit and try something new. Thanks for the tips and processing flow. Be well!

Scott

Lightroom is ACR on steroids!
the Adobe team that does ACR just went further and further with their tweaks and ended up putting out LR version 1
Since then, it has grown to the point of being a significant player in the general market but underlying everything in LR is always ACR..........so you already know how to use it, you just will get better and easier results with LR not to mention the workflow benefits and the cataloging benefits (fantastic!)

I dabble in sports (to put it mildly)
but I want you to realize, the Nik software I mentioned above, in previous post, easily gets me another stop or two in ISO

I can push the ISO much higher than before and use the Nik sharpener and denoise to get results the same or better than previous ISO shots without them with my 5D--- and with my 5D III I can shoot at ISO up to 51,200 with surprisingly good results
