He's a sophisticated scammer if he knows about shutter count

or he just copied someone elses listing on craigslist, and dropped a 1 from the price...googling the guys email he left shows a nikon d3100 for sale in houston...

I don't see the point in having a signed document. Such a thing could be made up by the buyer in a minute with some fictitious name and false signature.

If it's a stolen goods, from the point of view of the authority, yes. You're correct.

However, it depends on how you do to get that bill of sale. If you do something right, you will smell something stink if it's indeed a stolen goods. A bill of sale, Handwriting, emails, phone number with texts and so on can be a lead in an investigation by authority.

It all depends on how careful you are and if you let the greed to take over.

Here's the thread about the stolen gear. Great read!

https://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=839212

Great outcome for this guy, but this is definitely the exception.

If there's any doubt I would pass - besides the moral guilt, you could end up out the cash and out the gear.

Thank you for the link, but would you mind summing it up from your memory. I really don't want to go through 65 pages.

Don't bother. Its a scam or you might get robbed.
$600 for the body alone should raise a red flag.

he bought a lens that he thought was a good deal...i think it was like $1,000 for a 70-200mm f2.8 IS I...so maybe like $200 less than normal...thought everything was legit...used the lens for a few months...cops called him, and told him it was stolen...he gave it back

posted his story here...people felt a little bad, seemed like a stand up guy...someone set up a fund for people to donate...he had enough money for a 70-200mm f2.8 IS II(which had just come out) within a couple of days i think...

actually here's a much better article on it:

Saw the same craigslist here in WNY, 60D plus 5 lens, including a 70-300 and 24-105L for $600. Didn't even check it out, total nonsense
