Not sure if anyone is following any of the live blogs of the iPhone event today in California...

Phil Schiller is talking about the new camera in the iPhone and he said...

"It used to be that to take better pics, you just learned to become a better photographer."

Isn't that still true...?

Wow, let the debate of equipment vs. talent begin all over again...

True to a point. This is not aimed squarely at photographers, though, but soccer moms and the 'normal' population. I welcome upgrades to the iSight camera with great enthusiasm, because the best camera is the one you have with you. It can pull off some decent scenery shots, as well.

I wonder if the video editors on The Titanic ever went, "Sorry, I can't right now. I'm busy synching the Titanic..."

I had a look at a new iPhone 5 to replace my ended-contract Android 'phone yesterday - mainly because the battery is not so good anymore - and the clerk said the iPhone 5 needs recharging daily!!!!

Well, that's what I'm "putting up with" with my current phone. When the new battery arrives (I opted for a replacement in the end, free, on insurance), I'm sure it'll go back to needing a recharge once a week!

Does anyone here find their dSLR needs recharging every day?

Even after a pro' shoot, I can come away with 25~50% remaining in my 6D. And even better in my 7D. And that'd be after around 1,000 photos.

Nah....all this "iPhone beats dSLRs" stuff is dross!

Regards,

Simon

That's because it's not a camera. It's a computer capable of calculations and processes that were only dreamed about ten years ago, while simultaneously running graphics and 101 apps in the background- and it just happens to have a pretty good point and shoot attached to it. ;)

1DMkIII after a three day "bender" taking dance recital photos.

One battery, one camera, three lenses (70-200/2.8 IS mostly, 24-70/2.8 and 16-35/2.8 for the rest)

I had a spare battery in my bag the entire time, I just wanted to see how far I could push things...

there's a very good reason why a smart phone battery doesn't last as long as a dlsr.

lets say your at home, you got your smart phone connecting to the mobile network, your home wifi, GPS, if you got facebook, twitter and any number of news feeds then all this is being updated and running in the background while it's "asleep" If you really want to know how long your phone can last, turn it in to a dumb phone. Turn off wifi, turn off roaming data, disable all account syncs and remove any unwanted apps. Then you will find that the battery lasts much much longer. Even on a mobile device wifi will use a lot of battery power.

A camera when it goes to sleep, it's asleep. it's doing nothing. A phone isn't asleep, it's just that the screen is off.

It just depends on how much you use it. I can get two days out of an iPhone easily with light use. If you don't run apps and don't text much you can get a few days.

The clerks don't want you to buy an iPhone, they make much lower margins on those vs the Android phones, they will do everything they can to steer you away. It is annoying.

Typical Apple rhetoric. The comparisons they always draw between a DSLR and their camera are laughable. Personally, the camera drives me nuts.

Here, the iPhone is popular because it's cheap per month.

Here, the clerks don't make anything extra at all!
This is Japan...where you work because you LOVE work!
Hahahaha!

Anyway, my new battery arrived this morning for my Android smart-phone. Yay!
It's now fully charged (as of 12:30pm) so I'll see how long it lasts.
I use my mobile phone when I need to....but for internet stuff, I use a PC because it has a screen big enough to read stuff from!

Cheers for now,

Simon
