Haven't seen a thread for bounced speedlight shot examples. I was looking at some from the bft (Black foam thing) and the light bender things and such and would love to see any examples folks have of speedlight shots where the light has been bounced off walls or ceilings (or even reflectors). Shots can be off camera, just want to see how well the technique of bouncing the light off near objects works. I'll add some when I find out what and how i want to try this. Please let us know if you used something attached to the speedlight to block direct light from the flash hitting the subject. Thanks

Very cool. Just what I was looking for. I want to get an overall feel for what can be done by just bouncing your flash. Just like in the lens sample threads, I think the best way I learn is to see dozens or even hundreds and thousands of pics from a certain technique or item and I begin to get an overall, average feel for that thing or technique and what I can expect in various situations. That's why I love those lens sample threads and these kind as well. This bounce flash thing is popular and we keep seeing new products like these flash bender things and black foam things and it will be great to see a lot of pics from folks using this technique. Thanks, hope we get many more.

On-camera bounced off wall/ceiling camera left with enough of the head forward for a catch light.

Do you know the black foamie thing is all about bounce flash?

He has lots of photos and a full explanation about how they are done. He also has wide angle shots showing the set-up.

Bouncing light from a speedlite is about the only successful approach.
The newer cameras with high ISO performance make it that much easier.

Here are a couple;
First one, the bride wanted a picture with her and her dress before she put it on.
She spent a few minutes trying to think about what to have on for the shot, then told me, wait here, I'll call you when I'm ready.
When she called I went into the bedroom and there she was, in bed, looking up at her dress. I brought the mamosa and chocolete strawberries over to the bed and we had the shot.

Window light camera left, and as can be seen in the mirror, fill from bounced speedlite into wall behind me.

Second shot was done in the bride's parent's living room. Picture window behind her, speedlite bounced into the wall and ceiling camera right for fill.

This was shot using a rogue flashbender (large) It was set to bounce most of the light, but provide some kicker for fill. The room was a hotel banquet room with a fairly high ceiling. 580exII
