Normal is defined as the diagonal of the sensor, so 27mm for 1.6x crop. 24mm is about 10% wider than that, so it does technically qualify as a wide angle. But just barely. In the same way that a 35mm qualifies as telephoto.

It is for my 83 year old mother in law. ;):)

And 24mm is wide enough for NeonStar.

However for the other 98% of the population, 45mph is too slow and 24mm is not wide enough.

Personally the 17-55 f2.8 was my choice to go with the 60d.

I'm sure the 24-105 is a very good lens but does not appeal at all to me, surely the OP knows what's the best range of focal length for him/her?

BTW some people mentioned looking in Lightroom to find your most commonly used focal length so I just tried it:
In Library by turning on metadata I can see that I've used the 17-55 more than my other 4 lenses combined, by looking at the number of shots taken by focal length I can see that the vast majority are taken at or around 23mm at an aperture of f4 or less (with a few peaks at f8 and f11). Sort of rules out the 24-105 for me!

Maybe it would help the OP decide to take a look at his stats this way? It's quite interesting in a geeky way!!

How did you do that in lightroom? I'm intrigued what mine would be

@ sancho1983
In the Library module in grid view and then at the top of the interface I have 4 buttons "Text, Attribute, Metadata, None" Click on the Metadata one and all the stats show up in the columns below, you can change what each column shows by clicking on the title and you get a drop down list to choose from.

Yeah Frost, it would be interesting in a geeky sort of way. I'm an engineer so geeky suits me just fine... :). Actually, Windows 7 Explorer will show you your photo info on .jpg images. I save RAW + a small .jpg in case one of my kids wants one to post on facebook or instagram. Too bad I can't automate it....
