Low ISO and ND grads, why would you choose a 5D3 over a 1DS3?

Purely for landscapes, why would you choose one over the other?

cant answer your question, but just throwing this out:

if you're doing pure landscapes, why would you choose 5d3 or 1DS3 over a much cheaper 6D?

Don't know really! I'm used to 1 series bodies and the extras they give (multiple card slots, weather sealing, feel in the hand etc....) the 5D3 seems like the next step down.

The 5D3 kills the 1ds3 in virtually everyway from a pic quality pov. If you really love the 1D and need that added weather seal, you pretty much have to spring for the 1DX.

Thanks

The 1DX is an option. I was thinking about getting a 1D4 1DS3 combo. I take it the 1DX would be the better option?

- Newer sensor
- Weight
- Higher ISO performance

Just a few off the top of my head...

Weight doesn't matter too much
High ISO isn't important.....it'll be fixed to my tripod!

Newer sensor........don't know!

Just because it is not important to you doesn't mean it is not important for everyone else.

I agree, but for me, as the person who asked the original question.....it is not important.

original question was why would "you" meaning us chose a 5D3 over a 1DS3

So people have given you reasons why they would chose the 5D3.

If you just want to post about why you wouldn't chose it then go ahead and everyone will look at it, shrug their shoulders and move on.

;)

I also said low ISO.
So, please shrug your shoulders and move on!

One reason I chose the 1ds miii over the 5d miii is the latter is overpriced at the moment. If I shoot above 800 iso then flash will most likely be used so high iso is a non factor for me. For what its worth though the 1ds miii is slightly better than the original 5d at every iso. Even when shooting at iso 3200 is better than any crop body sensor.

I do understand that people tend to gravitate towards a newer body sensor though and the 5d miii is a heck of a camera overall. I tend to think though that I made the right choice for my needs.

Did you ever get to compare to a 1DS2?

When I was preparing to move up from the 5d I did consider the 1ds mii along with the 5d mii and miii before ultimately deciding on the 1ds miii. By going with the 1ds miii body I gained roughly 3+ megapixels, larger lcd, live view, micro adjust and better battery life to name a few things that helped in my decision over the 1ds mii.

With my budget I wasn't prepared to go over $2500 max for a body, so the 1ds miii was a perfect fit for $2200. I plan on picking up the 85L for $1500 to go along with the 1ds miii so I am staying within my budget of $4000 my finance manager (wife) set. With the $300 savings I will probably pick up the 85 f/1.8 for the times I want a faster focusing 85 lens.

Of course everyone's needs are different and what works for me doesn't apply for everyone else but I thought a short explanation would help clarify why I went with the decision I did.
