The black isn't very inviting for families.

I agree with adam8080--B+W seems to be at least an unconventional choice for the chosen genre. That said, the principle of 'show what you want to shoot' may be relevant here.

Not a big fan of photos on a business card and vertical format.

Me neither, but all that matters is if it'll attract new clients. I think in this case it would work. The color version is better than B&W.
I'd put some more space between "Photographer" and your website. I'd actually completely ditch the word "Photographer", the name "BGSPhotography" should give them enough of a clue as for what you do.

Strangely enough I don't think I'm that keen on it either. But Irrecently took the imageaand edited it to have that space. After looking for a while I thought it fits as it almost looks like he's looking at the details.

Still undecided, I might try a landscape version of it.

I don't think it's a very strong image, regardless that he's *almost* looking at the details.

Thanks for opinion. Any specific reason it's not a good image?

There is little emotion evoked by it. Could be a snap taken by a parent. Doesn't say portrait photographer. It is a picture you'd see someone having printed and framed on their wall. Show what you sell.

To be honest I think the cards are uninspiring and quite dull. Who are the main people to influence with selling portrait photography packages... the mums. Black looks really "dark" and doesn't say "look at that little cutie I just have to have something like that".

I'd start over on the whole design if I were you.

So you're saying it is a" snap taken by a parent", but then that someone would pay for it and have it on their wall. Do you think it's not 'saleable' (obviously not that one as it's my son :))

I definitely agree that mums are the target and perhaps that doesn't appeal. It's something I quite like (obviously) but then I'm not the target.

I'd not set out to take that picture for it, I was just looking at it and thought it would fit.

Back to the drawing board!

Thanks again all.

No I don't think it is a saleable picture. I doubt it would sell a session either. The problem occurred here "It's something I quite like". You were thinking with a bias as it is your son not thinking as if you were a prospective client. Of course you are going to like an image of your own son. Start thinking like the demographics you are selling to and what they would think. They are your potential clients.

I like the image. But also agree that it isn't exactly representative of what a child portrait photographer would sell.

Or maybe it is, if that's your style.

i like the black and white too. I wonder if you could make the wall white or light grey?

in then end, you want to attract attention to yourself, and i think it works.

Just my opinion, but I see nothing in this image that would motivate me to call on you for this kind of service. (In fact, it would have quite the opposite effect for me). Essentially a floating head in a shallow cage like environment with a hand seemingly erupting from his mouth.

Life is illusion, photography is reality.
