I can't really pick which one I like better. I am interested in other opinions:

I like them both--beautiful colors! If I had to choose, I would choose the first one, because the colorful areas contrast nicely with the darker areas. Gives a mysterious, impending dark feel. Nice job.

I would choose the second one because the focus is primarily the sunset, but yet has a bit of foreground interest with the tree. In contrast, the first one has a larger silhouetted area of land and is darker which, to me, detracts from the sunset. :)

The second shot is the better one for the reasons that John mentions. Although, the first would have been better if it was framed differently- less dark forground and the complete tree on the right side would have made for a superb shot.

I disagree. In the second shot, the trees are coming out of nowhere. That's why I like the first better. You might want to crop it slightly though.
