Probably the best tutorial on how Canons' autofocus system works. Yes, it's directed towards the high end of their camera line. But as I and many others have found, it applies to most of their newer DSLR cameras.

It's a 3 part presentation on Youtube.

After watching this, my percentage of missed focus shots is near zero!

Read the whole post, don't just skim. Mere ignorance of something isn't the same as lazy stupidity. What you describe is the former, not the latter.

sorry for the late reply....I did read your whole post. And, I would agree with you, those people exist. I worked as a syadmin in IT for many years and ran into it almost on a daily basis. Stupidity had no bounds, even within the people in the IT field.

The point I was trying to make is simply that we can't call people intellectually challenged because they don't want to know the intricacies of how AF works. A basic understanding is all that is needed. I want to see the images they create.

Even for us enthusiasts, people are going to have a different capacity to understand technical data. I wouldn't say they are lazy or stupid. I have a highly technical background but couldn't sing or play a musical instrument if you put a gun to my head (nor do I care for that stuff). I would hate someone to call me stupid because it's just not my thing.

I don't call people lazy or stupid as a whole, just lazy or stupid about whatever it is they claim to want to know about but shut down as soon as it sounds like it'll take effort. Those same people are probably brilliant about something I myself would claim to want to know about but shut down as soon as it sounds like it'll take effort.

I mean, there are people who can't take a photo to save their life but if my car needs torn apart and the heads machined, I'll go to them for the machining. I don't even want to know how to machine heads so I'm lazy and stupid about it.
