Does this lens appear to be normal. Look at the outer edges of the glass. Have you seen this in your lens? Is it glue?

Looks like glue to me. My EF 300 f/4 L USM and EF 400mm f/5.6 L USM both show the same thing.

It's normal, and I've owned two of the 300mm f/4 L IS.

People have posted photos like that in the past. It has been concluded it is glue and normal.
