I've been considering pursuing photography as a part time job and eventually down the track maybe even full time. I have shot a few portraits here and there, mostly for friends or co workers but I'd like to get into shooting in commercial settings. Architectural, rental property's, real-estate ect.

Just wondering how many of you out there do this sort of stuff? Is it a tough field to get into compared to say, wedding and people photography? Is there decent money to made in this business?

Any general comments on the topic would be great!

Yes it is hard, and yes there is (very) decent money. It's the same as any other field. Marketing, marketing, hustle, hustle.

Beat down the doors of the local realtors and make them offers. Hey, my name is ____. I'm working on getting into shooting rental properties and real estate. I'm sure you may have a photographer already, but if he/she has prior obligations and can't make it to a job, give me a call... I'll shoot the first one at X (or no cost) and if you like the work...

I use manual exposure settings on the copy machine
