Hello everyone, I'm new around here (I'm from Argentina) and I'm considering buying a travel tripod.
After reading the various forum post I keep with the Feisol 3442 + Acratech GP ss vs Benro C2682 TV2.

difference with model c2680t vs actual model ?

should I buy the legs c2680t + acratech GP ss ?

Thanks in advance

The Feisol is the better tripod. Better quality metal parts, more stable, taller, lighter (I have compared both side by side). However, it costs more.
The Benro is still a very nice tripod though.

New Benro model c2682 TV2 has a Max Load 18 kg vs 12 Kg (c2680) and 10 Kg (Feisol)...
+ three step tube angule adjustment
+ Much better head

About Feisol, I read about the following problem (http://www.thedigitalcameraexperts.com/feisol-tripods/ (external link))
http://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/756837/1 (external link)

"The only negative comment about this Feisol model is in the construction of the aluminum cap attachment of the carbon fiber legs. It has been known, in certain circumstances, to not grip the leg correctly. When this happens, the leg itself comes right out of the tripod. This problem is not widespread and does not actually hurt the tripod itself."

any comments? this problem is common on that model of Feisol?

That issue has been fixed per Feisol, something about the glue being used, don't remember what exactly. You won't find any recent reviews talking about that problem as far as I'm aware.

Ignore the max loads, they don't mean much, there is no standard for measuring what constitutes a "max" load. All I know is that my Feisol is more stable than the Benro C2682. But now that you mention it, I could have sworn the max load of the 3442 was 12kg, would anyone care to confirm whether I've gone batty or whether they lowered the rating?

As for the TV2 ballhead, I have never tried that so I don't know. I don't like buying tripod "kits" anyway, I prefer pairing the legs to a head of my choice.

I agree with tom that load capacities are neither accurate nor indicative of stability. IMO it's a matter of budget. If you can afford the feisol/acratech then go for it as it will be better a quality setup. However, if you want to save some money then the benro is a great option for the price. I myself spent weeks deciding between the feisol 3442 and the benro c2682. Fortunately I got a great deal on a used gitzo and never had to choose :)

They are both great options.

The Feisol 3442 with the Acratech GP-ss sounds like a very light, albeit expensive, combo. You'd have a hard time finding a lighter setup for a regular sized tripod. I don't really consider the 3442 a travel tripod, though. It's light enough to carry around, but it doesn't exactly pack away like a traveler. If you can deal with the size and can only buy one, then I'd recommend getting a regular tripod and take it with you on trips. I'd rather deal with it being slightly too big when traveling and having a better tripod for normal use than having the travel tripod be slightly too small all the time.

With that said, I'm not a big fan of Feisol. I had a Feisol and a Benro at the same time and ended up selling the Feisol. The Feisol was lighter but at the cost of stability. There was a lot of flex in it. I could lean and put my weight on the Benro and it could support me. The Feisol felt like it would snap. Another thing that bugged me was the fact that they kept charging extra for non-rotating legs. They must have bought a huge supply of regular tubes because for years they made it an extra $100 option for the "Rapid legs." All the other companies just embraced the technology and incorporated the non-rotating legs into their line ups. I never understood why Feisol kept offering the normal legs and charged extra for what other companies were including. Benro isn't perfect either, but I have a lot more faith in their tripods. I can find faults in RRS products as well, so I may just be extremely picky.

Comes down to cost. Both are great tripods and I doubt you will dislike either. I personally went with Feisol and love it....Just added a feisol head to their legs too.

On a random side note, I was surprised to find out the other day that pro photog Peter Hurley actually uses Feisol legs as well

Is difficult to decide between them...

"The Feisol was lighter but at the cost of stability. There was a lot of flex in it" (Klr.b)

"my Feisol is more stable than the Benro C2682" (Sirrith)

Is there any chance you can go to a shop to try them out? Its best to see these things for yourself.

One of the main reasons I prefer Feisol is the use of machined aluminium metal parts versus cast metal (magnesium alloy?) on Benro.

I went with the 2682 TV2 kit. It should be here in a week or so. I like the looks of their new ballheads and will compare it against my Markins Q3. I also own a RRS TVC-33s with Center Column and just needed a lighter weight tripod for travel.

I don't think you can go wrong with either choice. I have just had good luck with my older benro that I paid $100 for and lasted years of abuse in mud and salt water.

Yes. The C2680T comes without a Benro ballhead and the take-off leg that makes a bad monopod. It's just a straightforward sturdy travel tripod with a much smaller diameter and folded size than a Feisol. The Acratech GP-ss is a great ballhead for that tripod.

Just to note that the 2680 is the older Travel Angel model. The new ones, like the C2682 have been refined a bit including better leg locks, straighter legs, larger leg pads, magnesium alloy components which help reduce vibration, etc etc.

Most likely small changes, but nevertheless, should be noted.

it's a shame that there is no c2682t version (just the legs)

I'm actually looking forward to trying out the V2 ballhead. I've always stayed away from the B version of heads because of the reports that they just don't last.
