I don't understand the obsession with NEW things ...

If I buy a new camera and it had 200 shots on it .. screw it .. its like when you buy a new car, most likely it has been test drove ...

Sheez ..

So you don't mind going to buy "new" underwear, and it's been pre-worn?

When I bought my 2014 JGC Overland it had 2 miles on it. If it had 200 miles on it I would've picked a different vehicle since I'm buying a NEW car, NOT a Dealership vehicle with excess miles on it. I also paid a lot of money for a 5D3, with zero shutter actuations on it. I want to get as much out of my shutter for my money as possible. I mean, do you go to a restaurant and ask for food that was cooked yesterday? o_O

Didn't realize there was such a big market for used underwear. Guess there is a market for anything. Cool!

you really cant compare 200 miles vs 200 shutter. Takes a bit of work to travel 200 miles, and 200 shutter takes a few minutes. A more realistic scenario would be a new car with 20 test drive miles (that's probably pushing it).

200 shutter is basically new, but I can understand the negativity towards the TS. it sounded like the purchase was use like a rental.

You think 200 shutter actuations compare to 20 miles in a car?

Lets attempt to standardize these against mean times to failure. Off hand Nikon cites some shutters at 150,000 actuations.

AND most cars do last to 150,000 miles before major engine maintenance(assuming engine maintence required is somewhat exponentially distributed).

I think it's fair to compare the two. But I'm just a statistician, what do I know. :)

I dont doubt that your comparison holds true, but a car that's driven 200 miles before being sold, takes a whole lot of driving to accomplish, which a camera has shutter that moves very fast. New cars also have a break in period, and 200 questionable driven miles can do damage to a motor if driven hard in this period. Cameras have no such break in period

there are lots of variables with cars, and while the numbers do favor your analogy (I was aware of the numbers before I posted), I just think that based on the way you actually use a camera, it would be easy to achieve those numbers since the two are used in different ways. My shutter clicks way more than the miles I put on my car ;)

I am going to close this thread if this petty fighting continues. Mind your manners, put people on your ignore list and time to grow up.

*likes this post*, I've contemplated the move many times for the D800, giving up canon lenses would be hard as hell.

thread was getting really lively with the high mileage comments :D

I think for me the issue becomes how come it took 200 pics to figure out the flash doesnt work with the nikon. So i dont really think that argument holds...at least not for me. On the flip side time and time again i read people here on this forum advocating buying 2 different cameras to try them both out and then send back the one you dont like.

Of course when I opened this thread I was expecting something a little bit more in depth about iq rather than how you bought and returned a camera.
