I'm leaving Saturday for a 6 day trip to Phoenix, Flagstaff, the Grand Canyon, Hoover Dam, Bryce Canyon and Las Vegas.

I have the following Cameras and Lenses:
Canon 7d
Canon 5d Classic (Really bringing as a backup)
Tokina 12-24 f/4
Sigma 30 f/1.4
Canon 17-55 f/2.8
Canon 24-105 f/4 (pretty much a given this one's coming along)
Canon 70-200 f/4
Sigma 120-300 f/2.8 O.S. (This one's, of course, heavy, but I'm into wildlife)

I know I don't really need to bring all of them, but could use some info from people who've been there and have knowledge/regrets.
I really do appreciate any advice the intellectual folks here at P.O.T.N. have to offer.

Thanks

17-55 is all you need. I brought this lens to so many trips and it does the job well.

From your list I'd take the 12-24, 17-55 and the 120-300 (only because you mentioned you're into wildlife)

A wide angle and wide to medium zoom will be enough IMO (Excluding wildlife). Night pictures in Vegas are some of my favorites. My Tokina 11-16 2.8 did great for casino and shots on the strip. Keep in mind night time photography is great in Vegas, so fast glass really helps.

Besides glass, do you have filters in your inventory? ND, GND, CPL's? Those would help, too... Continuing with the discussion, IMHO, I'd bring wide for your 7D... Which means either the Tokie 12-24 or the Canon 17-55... With regards to 'wildlife' possibilities, your best bet would by your Siggy...

Have a great time on your 6 day vacay!!!

:D

Out of your list I'd leave the 30mm. You've got that length covered on two other lenses. All else will be useful. Make sure you visit the Gilbert Riparian Preserve while you're in Phoenix. :)

When in Vegas, the trip to Valley of Fire is well worth it. Try to make it early AM or late in the day for the best colors and light patterns.

24-105 glued on to the 5D

12-24 and 120-300 + 7D
and a sturdy tripod. This kit would be good almost anywhere in the world really.

Went to Glaciers, Yellowstone and Grand Teton a few months ago. These are what I brought with me:

Canon 5D Mark III
Canon 6D
Canon 7D
Canon 8-15L
Canon 16-35L II
Canon 24-70L II
Canon 24L II
Canon 70-300L
Canon 300/4L IS

And I'd do that again. Of course, when I hike, I carry only what I need.

Now, from your list, I'll take something similar:

Canon 7D
Canon 5D Classic
Tokina 12-24 f/4
Sigma 30 f/1.4
Canon 17-55 f/2.8
Sigma 120-300 f/2.8 O.S.

Have fun!

That's what I was first considering

I've been meaning to sell the Tok 12-24 4.0 and buying the 11-16 2.8 for some time now, but just haven't pulled the string. Wish I would have.

Thanks. Yep I've got ND, Variable ND and CPLS. I've been kicking around the idea of taking the 120-300, but have been hesitant because of the weight. I know if I dont bring it I'll be sorry and probable miss some "Shots of a lifetime so it'll probably be packed.

Have a great time on your 6 day vacay!!!-

Thanks bunches

I'd kinda made up my mind about leaving the 30. Thanks for the tip.

Yeah, I just got the 24-105 lens just for this trip. It'll probably be toted by my wife.
OK, the 120 def is going now. I do have a CF tripod I hope will be sturdy enough.
Thanks

Also, Keep in mind that you might want to do some panaoramics. One lens might not get everthing in you see. So keep in mind to overlap images so you can merge or stitch them when you return home.

Duly noted, I definitely want to do some panoramics. That hadn't occurred to me until I saw some of my stepdaughter's shots from Yellowstone.
Thanks

You guys would really take a 120-300mm f2.8? I wouldn't want that beast weighing down my bag all week. 70-200 gets my vote instead.

I'd probably do 12-24, 24-105, and 70-200.

it seemed like he was kind of set on taking it...although i think if you're driving around to the different areas, it's not that bad...yeah there may be a bit of hiking with it, but i'm sure it's nothing he hasn't already done...I'm probably going to be headed to arizona in the next few weeks, and i'm really debating on taking my 150-500mm...

OP said he was into wildlife, that's the only reason I recommended he take it.
