Since I showed that the 7D AF could indeed lock onto subjects in conditions much worse than what was posted originally to rag on the 7D AF, it is a natural inclination to immediately attack the IQ, which is pretty easy for a post-sunset, ISO 6400 slightly underexposed shot. At those ISOs, you better make sure you have nailed exposure properly. :)

I don't know anyone who would even use ISO 6400 on the 7D. The pros I shoot with in the field wouldn't even go over ISO 800 when the 7D first came out. They quickly jettisoned that camera for a 1D series body or 5D II's.

As for 7D AF, there have been an unusual number of complaints (many here on this forum).

Again, if we stay on topic, I would love to see identical comparison shots between the 7D and 70D. I figure we are only about a month from seeing the 70D on the refurb site.

I just posted a link to RAW crops. One looks blurry, the other looks sharp. Care to guess which one the 7D is? ;)

I used both cameras side-by-side in a raptor-heavy area of Montana for several months, and the 6D was the clear winner, even heavily cropped. It just took better photos. The 7D noise in the blue channel was especially problematic as well as low light performance.

When you wrote this, I quoted you and asked for the pictures to back up your claims. Linking to charts does nothing to prove real life use. Is your reluctance to post evidence due to the fact last time you posted pictures to back up you "issues", you were found to be the cause of your problems...............
The duck shots you posted from your 6D at ISO 320, clearly didn't have a patch on Teamspeeds basketball players shot at ISO 6400 ???

Yes, because we all know basketball players are much harder to film than birds in flight during a snow storm. And the brightly colored jerseys? Terrible for auto focus and a true test. Focusing on earth tones with an earth tone background at speeds of 40 MPH in snow isn't much of a test at all.

The one thing that 'worries' me about the 70D is the swivel screen. I had a swivel screen on my (please don't laugh) S1IS - and the display stopped working a number of times requiring me to get it fixed each time. Are there any stats/predictions how reliable the new swivel screen is/is expected to be?

I'm tempted to upgrade to the 7D as I find it more comfortable in my hands. It's a strange thing to judge a camera on - but the camera needs to feel like an extension to me.

But the 7D is getting long-in-the-tooth. And quite cheap new at the moment.

I've had my 60D since 2011. I've never heard complains from a 60D owner about the swivel screen.

I consider it a major plus.

Swivel LCDs have been on P&S cameras for a long time and on video cameras for even longer. If there was any major problem with them then we'd have heard about it.

actually I think that is a very valid point as well tog. I've been going back and forth between the two and am leaning towards buying the 7D. Having said that I'm going to the Photography Show at the NEC next month and was going to use that as the chance to handle both models and see how they feel before making a final choice - there's only so much you can glean from online research etc and when I picked my current 350D up it was also based on how it felt to handle compared to a similar entry level Nikon ( sorry for swearing everyone ! :) )

The 7D is right around 50% of its original list price almost 5 years ago, if you want a lightly like-new used copy. That is actually a pretty low depreciation rate. As others have stated, Canon has been making swivel LCDs for well over a decade now. It would one of the lowest worries I would have with the 70D.

It's carpet, just lay down with the 7D and turn on live view. Just as easy!

(yes I want my next body to be a touchscreen swivel LCD, both attributes are very handy)

As a bird photographer I found the LCD screen on the 70D a great help getting very low angle shots. AF is quick and accurate, and the articulated screen saves me the inconvenience of lying down in the mud, poop, etc. (I know, a "real" bird photographer wouldn't complain about these, but hey, if there's a more convenient method, I'll take it :) )
And it's not only the dirt, but also the body position and neck cramps that bother me when lying down with a non-articulated screen camera (I used to shoot with a 7D for 4 years.)

So, I don't have a 'table leg' shot, but I have these (and many more) from my 70D, shooting a very low angle without having to lie down:
