I don't think there'll be a 7DII...

Yes I don't think so either ... seems like the 7DII would be the 6D!

whats wrong with you people. Canon confirmed themselves 7D Mark II is in the testing and it does exist in a conference somewhere in january/february 2013, where they also talked about the 70D.

nikon has a 300S, canon replied with 7D. both were huge successes, nikon is working on a D400, canon on 7D Mark II to combat that.

Can you please refer us to the link which shows a 7DII is being released? Lets be serious about it...why would Canon want to release one?

The 7D would need to surpass the 70D in AF and have up to 12fps. Would they really want to encroach that far into 1D space? Not in a pink fit.

It would also need to perform a couple of stops down which will jeopardise the 5DIII. Would they really want to push that far into its territory...?.

The 7D has been produced as one off and sits on a pedestal of its own....

i really cant be bothered to look around for that exact 7 months old conference link. sort of things are a lot more discussed on CR forum. Canon stated, 7D Mark II is going to be groundbreaking. even still, it will nowhere near outmatch FF's ISO and IQ, that alone is a reason for real Pro photographers to stay away from crop and grab for the 1D series.

there is a lot of room to improve on 70D, like:
- magnesium alloy
- joystick
- better back wheel dial
- faster FPS
- better AF (70D just inherited 4 old tehnology)
- buffer size
- 100% VF and 1x magnification
- ISO performance (probably due to Digic6+ processor)
- more C(ustom) function dials (70D only has 1, 7D and 5D3 f.e. have 3)
- getting back Spot and Expansion AF modes
- getting more custom AF functions (in Menu) than 70D did
- GPS
- and the list goes on

In some respects the 70D is a dumbed down version of the 7D, albeit only fractionally...Why on earth would Canon do that? To preserve sales of the 7D for years to come? I really don't think there's enough of a difference for that to happen.

The 7DII, or whatever, would need to be one hell of a machine to entice full frame camera users away from that category. I cannot see that happening.

If there is a 7D2, it will have to be the pinnacle of the APS-C line, like the 7D was back in 2009. It will need the best features of all the cameras to-date, like HDR, multiexposure, bracketed ISO, touch screen, tilt, dual pixel sensor for movies, etc. It will also need a couple new toys up its sleeve as well to really push it over, because we can already extrapolate that the camera will be higher than the opening price of the 7D 4 years ago, so somewhere north of $1699, most likely $1999 to $2299.

THere is already at least one thread to discuss the mythical 7D MKII, so there's no real need to clutter this thread with the same old speculations.

Considering I see pro's running arond with (old!) Rebels and amateurs at the Zoo with 1D camera's I see no reason whatsoever not to call the 7D a pro camera.

Totally agree...

This is the choice I have made, I have hold the 7D in my hands, and I like how it feels.

You all have your choice and why you chose it, its whats right for you, and the 7D is right for me.

Good for you!.. It's a great camera, as i'm sure the 70D is too.. Enjoy :)

70D is 20.2 MP. For me i like the HDR, RAW to JPeg in camera processing, Wifi, EOS remote of the 70D. But i also dont do a lot of PP of my images. I usually just upload them, crop them, might satuirate them a bit and run them through a noise program. If your gonna PP them alot then the 7D would be a better choice i think. I personally use my 7D and my 100-400L to shoot aircraft, birds, anything moving basically, then the 70D with a wide angle lens to capture landscapes, portraits, macro, HDR images. Either way i dont think you can go wrong with either one. THe 7Ds grip is better and better body.

My 5D3 has the HDR and in camera jpeg processing, and I never use those features. Your mileage may vary, of course. :)

I chose the 7D because the view finder has all the screen option to take pics through the view finder, better and more menu options, strong body faster frame rate and buffer.

The 70D is simply slower, which some bells and whistle, the view finder interaptive options at limited compared to the 7D, the level axis only has 1 axis while the 7D has 2.
The 70D has some usefull features, touchscreen movie mode you know it.

I buy a camera for stills not movies, and the 7D is far better at that than the 70D, even though the 70D has better noise and 2 extra MP.

I was told here in private buy one who owns both the 70D and 7D that the raw files are the same, and it boils down to picture processing for color and extra sharpness and noise reduction.
From what I have been told the 70D is not significanlty better in terms of raw for me to chose it over the 7D.

This is the choice I have made, I have hold the 7D in my hands, and I like how it feels.

You all have your choice and why you chose it, its whats right for you, and the 7D is right for me.

You mentioned that this is your first camera... I'd certainly not recommend 7D. Even 70D might be "too much camera", but would have more support for a new user. Actually, for a "first camera" or "first DSLR", I might recommend 700D/T5i, 650D/T4i or 600D/T3i instead. (It will always be possible to upgrade later.) 7D is a harder camera to learn to use really well, but there is a lot more support available in books and online, than there was four years ago when Canon first introduced it.

Even once you know how to use it well, 7D still requires more close attention to setup, monitoring while shooting, and post-processing work than some of the other cameras. It's designed with more advanced amateurs and pros in mind... People who expect to do their own setup/post processing, and have the experience and know how to do it. 7D can be "tweaked" a lot of ways to get the best out of it... but tweak it wrong and results can be worse than they would be with "lesser" cameras. It is not a "snapshooter's" camera.

I've been using a pair of 7Ds (professionally) for four years and taken around 100,000 images apiece with them. They are a fine camera. But...

Right now I would not buy 7D. If I needed a camera today, I'd buy 70D, not the four year old technology of the 7D. There are a number of subtle refinements in 70D, improvements from both 60D and 7D. 70D is a whole lot of camera for the money. New sensor and processor have a lot of promise.

I don't need a camera today, so will be waiting for the 7D Mark II that will be available sometime in 2014 (no way is the 6D a replacement for 7D... they are two very different types of cameras with quite different purposes). One thing I can guarantee you... buy a 7D Mark I today and when the Mark II comes available, that Mark I will begin to depreciate rapidly.

BTW, there's virtually no noticeable difference between a 98% and 100% viewfinder. If anything, the 98% VF might be a little more forgiving, since there is a tiny bit of hedge room in case you don't frame an image quite right. 100% is fine, but unforgiving... if you crowd the edges, that's what you'll get in your final image. It's very minor difference, though, between 98% and 100%.

I'd love to have an articulated LCD on my 7Ds... and the mode dial lock of 60D/70D... and the increased bracketing capabilities... and the menu improvements... and the additional AF tweaks.... and the new, improved Micro Focus Adjustment... etc.

I'm really looking forward to the 7D Mark II, which I'm sure will have all of those and more.

Good luck with whatever you choose!
