I have chronicled my problems with several copies of this lens, with decentring, and soft copies. I am trying to decipher the issue with this last copy.
so in addition of having not super fast focus, and some occasional focus issues, some strange things happen occasionally, where the image is entirely blurred. here is a sequence of my daughter walking slowly, somewhat diagonally.
1. good focus

additional information. I think I had the VC on. she is walking, slowly, and diagonally. I have set both first shot focus and image tracking to focus priority, and I am shooting in slow (4fps I think). I have the AI servo focus set to algorithm 2, which is a non jumpy one. Light is good, though not bright outside light.
any thoughts.
