Hi DAMIANOZ,

Congratulations - nice well organized effort and lovely result!

Please forgive me, a bit off topic, but I’m curious…
Re: your wind machine (aka fan) Nice Photo SF01:
-does the Nice Photo SF01 fan have a rheostat/knob for continuously variable speeds (so it doesn’t dry a subject’s/model’s eyes) rather than just say a 1-2-3(lo-med-hi) speeds?
-is it quiet (so a photo shoot can be done in a relaxing manner)?
-diameter(perhaps 12”, or 14”)?
-source/supplier of your fan?

I’ve looked at the Bowen JetStream 250’s (or350’s)
http://www.bhphotovideo.com …m_Wind_Machine_10_25.html (external link)
for many years but refuse to pay it’s ridiculous price - yours looks like a potential alternative solution.

Thank you for any insight.

Mary
P.S. Hope things are progressing as well for your back, injuries to which are no fun!

Hi Mary,
Thanks for you kind comments.
I would have like the fan to produce less noise, you definitely aknow it's on, I wouldn't say it's too noisy, but it's defiantly not quiet, the specs claim it's less than 72dB, I couldn't find specs on the Bowen to compare. For the volume of air it moves, I thing the noise level is appropriate. The noise is both air and motor noise.
The diameter is 250mm (10") and 300mm (12") long, not a lot different to the Bowens 250
The speed is controlled by a variable pot (not stepped), the minimum speed is still quite fast, it doesn't varied from full to zero, more like full to half and any speed in between.
The Stand is an extra, only $16 I think, I changed the wheels on mine, the new wheels are freer rolling, and also have locking breaks, with out the breaks, the fan force moves the unit about.
I purchased from an Australian stockist, cheap shipping for me, however they are out of China, I have seen a couple China based online sellers.
I too couldn't justify the Bowens price tag, its just another prop for mea, not something that I feel I will use more so than not. There is a smaller version by the same manufacturer, it's less than $100, but I feel it's better to go big, you can always move it back.
I never considered the drying of eyes, I guess it wouldn't matter which unit you had, it's the wind that would cause drying, so brand is irrelevant.

This is where I bought it

I've had the back issue for over 18 months now, I get a lot of sciatica pain if I over do it, I have learnt to control it reasonably well, but to do so is have to pace myself, it's frustrating at times, because you just feel like hooking in and getting the job done. At times it can flare up where I can't sleep, the pain I can tolerate, the fatigue is a bigger issue for me and motivates me to be be patient, but life is awesome, my wife and kids are awesome, the people around me are awesome, I thrive on making others smile, which I thing is why I love photography. I love that reaction you get when someone see their photos. At the end of the day, the pain is insignificant compared to life. Sorry.... Blabbering on a bit....

Dear DAMIANOZ,

Thank you for your interesting and thorough reply and for taking the time to share your product experience & thoughts.
That is a nifty little stand you have for the fan & your replacement locking wheels a great practical idea.

I find if a fan blade diameter is relatively large (maybe more than approx 14”-16”) combined with not being able to vary the speed, that it seems to have a tendency to dry the eyes.

Thanks again.

Mary

P.S. Sounds like you have been blessed with finding the secret of life: “ATTUTUDE” - keep smiling & have fun with your photography…
(In life, an optimistic/happy attitude seems to allude so many; resulting in grumpy men/women who only carp from the sidelines of life. Glad you aren't one of them.)

Those black side screens are awesome, can you share the details on those?

They are roller blinds, simply roll them down when needed. No stands to fumble over and no loss of space
