I have been looking to upgrade my 100-400 v1 for some time and have been looking at the 150-600s however, I got to play with a Nikon P900 over the weekend and I got to say, I was quite impressed. At 600mm the IQ is really good and even at the max, 2000mm it impresses. The only drawback is no raw. :) Anyway, for the cost of a lens I can get a 2000mm camera.

Not sure why, but call me JJ.
I used to hate math but then I realised decimals have a point.

Besides the no raw drawback, at 2000mm, the thing is exceptionally touchy to camera shake. A tripod is almost too unstable and a bean bag did much better.

When I'm looking to upgrade, I get the camera in my hands to see how it feels. Then I rattle off some images, become very impressed or very disappointed (rarely). You can decide you don't like it. I passed on the 1Dx. Too much camera for me.
Or if you want to wait, I'd pass on the 7D Mark III and wait for the Mark IV. It's rumored to have dual flux capacitors.

As for the 5D IV, I have it, I love it. I haven't had a lot of time with it yet. That whole life and work thing is keeping me pretty busy right now, but when I do make some time to shoot, it really is a stellar camera.

Awesome, with dual flux capacitors I can never miss a shot, I'll be able to micro adjust time and get the shots 2 more times.

Sell your wife and kids and buy the 5DIV and a 100-400mm f2.8

Hope that helped!

I kind of need the wife as she is in my retirement plan, ie. She keeps working and I retire.

Never heard of it, I'll check it out.

If I were to get the 500, I would use it with a 1.4x extender which they say works well with FF. SO 700 f/5.6 is nothing to sneeze at. Only problem is I need to convince myself it's worth all that expense, and that I cant bring myself to YET.

As for 500mm, I love my Sigma 150-600 OS (C) and Tamron now has an upgrade out same focal length. I find I need to shoot at f/7.1 or 8 anyways because the dof is si thin at 500-600mm...

Certainly more cost effective but I could shoot that f with the 400 and 1.4x ...

Thanks on all yor thoughts guys. I think my first priority is better inside shots of the kids etc. So I'll look at gettin the camera first then see how it goes with the 400 and with and without the 1.4x. I have approval for that. But i still dont have a standard zoom EF (I have the nifty 50 in that range only) , recommendations?

What, you into astrophotography now Jay?

I read something that said "awesome, wicked awesome, cool, kewl and amazing" were overused, so I went stellar.
I was going to say "brilliant" and then "cheers" at the end, but I'm not from the UK, so...

I would say I take photos of tonsils, but they had them out. Mostly teeth shots.

Canada has the same Queen, and I've never heard Will say cheers. Rude.

Wow. Reading the above - numerous words and terms come to mind and not one of them is 'cheers'... and not for a lack of needing 'permission'...

It seems the 5D IV and 24-105L IS II (the brand new version of the lens) are very thin on the ground ...

EDIT. Have put deposit down - Lens should be in next week, camera by end of Month - I guess 2 weeks.

Poor Credit card.
