Back when I lived in Illinois, we were a bit rural and lost power a few times a year. I invested in a 6500 watt generator. Best investment ever. It's not big enough to run the whole house but enough to light a few lamps, plug in the fridge and freezer to cool them off, then switch it over to the furnace blower and get some heat in the house. Here in TX I have only had to use it once as we lost power for a bit more than 24 hours. Still, saved everything in the fridge and freezer.

Yes, we've been pricing them lately. As you know, in SE TX, you have to have AC, so we'll need one that can handle that. While a 22kw isn't crazy expensive, the labor to install and hook up is. Unfortunately, this means we'll be putting it off for the foreseeable future. Thanks for the info!

It's my life and I'll get pissed if I want to.

I just woke up from a 5 hour nap on the couch.

Been a week and a half since Dads accident. Still needs full time supervision, but is getting more independent, depending on the amount of pain killers he's on. Too many and he's wobbly, too few and he hurts too much. T4's seem to be the solution right now.
I have all the night shifts and he can't get in and out of bed on his own, so I have not slept much at all. Even if he doesn't get me up for 6 hours, I'm still barely asleep, waiting to hear him. Even while I was napping, in the same room, I was aware of any noise he made and knew when he fell asleep.

I tried one where I went back and took a look at the camera setting just before the eclipse started and manually set it to the same and took one at totality. I think it does a good job at conveying how dark it got.
5 hours is more than a nap. :) That's about what I get every night. I do take naps during the day though but usually between 20 minutes and an hour.

Wait, what happened to your dad? Link please! And sorry to hear this Mel. Take care of you, as well. A commonly ignored action: "Respite Care"

I'm getting in lots of naps. Some from exhaustion, some from medication, some from the result of PT. I'm not usually a napper.

I am not a napper. Anything less than 4 hours and I wake up feeling worse. I also do not fall asleep fast. I do fall *back* asleep in a blink, that is why I have 4 alarms set in the morning.

I called it a nap because I really didn't go completely asleep, the slightest noise would get my attention.

Me too. I can go a long time without sleep if I can take periodic naps. For the eclipse, the whole trip was 30 hours with 23 of them driving, 4 eclipsing, and 3 one hour naps

30 minute max for me. If I'm down longer than that, I'm down for the duration.

I like naps too. Just lately, I seem to fall asleep at work. Somedays I struggle to keep my eyelids up. -?

I hate that feeling. I had to take a class for advanced algorithms for millimeter-wave beam-forming for 5G carriers and normally this is exciting stuff. But I had a big lunch and was completely zoning out. When he for to discussing propagation losses, I just heard blablablabla...

The first training course I went to was a snoozer to begin with. The course was Tuesday/Wednesday, so I had to drive down on Monday afternoon. Monday was a holiday, so because I had the time, I went for an hour long massage. Felt great, but it left me sore that night. Sore body, long drive, unfamiliar not-so-comfortable mattress, and a hotel right next to the highway and just north of Toronto Pearson airport all mixed together to leave me rather sleepless. I was dead tired to begin with, and then the in-class material was covering transistors, potentiometers, and the like. I was nodding off at 9 am.
The course material was dry, simply because it was all stuff that I had already learned and fully understood. I was bored.
Once the instructor figured this out and let me work on more advanced stuff, I had a great time.

For the next course, I had to drive down after work (3 hr drive). I had a much better mattress that time, and was on a quieter side of the hotel. The first night the wind direction was different so the planes were not taking off and landing over the hotel.
