Call before you dig!

We have that too. It's much easier for them to come out and mark where everything is, rather than deal with an emergency gas leak after you put your rented backhoe through the line.

Up north we had "call Julie" (Joint Utility Locating Information for Excavators). In Texas we just call 811 and they show up.

Not sure why, but call me JJ.

Ours is Ontario One Call, with an 800 number. One call gets all the services located. Around here, there is a bylaw requiring the locating be done before any digging.

Same with Iowa. Iowa Utility Boards require locating prior to any digging.

Same with Illinois and Texas. If you dig and blow up the neighborhood, your in big trouble.

Glad you found your leak subby. We have a much easier way in the states. The utilities have a free service we can call and they will come out with all their toys and mark the water, gas, electrical, and cable. In fact, they highly encourage you to call any time you are digging a hole. It's free and they are quick. If you call them in the morning, by afternoon, everything is marked.

Wow, Australia is pretty crap in this regard. There is a dial before you dig but they only have info on public services not anything that is on private property. And they definitely don't come to you for free to find where everything is.

THIS IS A LOW QUALITY PREVIEW. Please log in to see the good quality stuff.

It may not have been the tree after all. It wasn't very near the root and there is a kink in the pipe, apparently can happen when they unroll the pipe and is quite common even if it takes some time. It is normal for it to happen under houses where there is generally no pressure to cause a burst. In Australia anyway where snow and freezing conditions are rare.

Some shiny new copper. The pipe is about 100 mm away from the root.

P.s. I'm impressed with the camera on this phone for macro shots :) I might aswell throw the 5D IV in the bin.

That's exactly the same leak I had. A pinhole in a crease.

Throw it this way, I'll give it a good home.

It seems to be holding the tree up, so I'd rather it not tumble over into the neighbours in a storm as the soil is very saturated. It will take about 40 years for it to reach the pipe, I'll be 82 and won't care :D

Only a couple more hours until I've got a confirmed kill.
