Sounds like a nice upgrade!

It is. I've been very happy with it so far.

Got a new camera body (5DIV), so back here to learn a few tips on how to operate it and see what it's capable of.

I am so jealous. I am so ready to upgrade and the 5DIV has almost everything I wanted in a camera but it's just too much $$ for me. Waiting for the A7III coming next month or in November.

Not sure why, but call me JJ.
I used to hate math but then I realised decimals have a point.

What doesn't it have? If I could find a coke machine on it, it would be the bee's knees!

My MkII was getting a bit long in the tooth, so when the power switch decided that any position was "on" that was the deciding factor. it came down to deciding whether or not to repair a nearly 9 year old DSLR, or bite the bullet and upgrade. The good thing is that all my old accessories and such work on it.

Another factor was that my son in law is considering switching from Nikon to Canon and by kicking down the MkII to him/my daughter, he has something more recent than an old XT to work with. I'd bug her to post some shots she took with it this last weekend, but I don't think she's found time yet to process them. Full time work plus classes for a masters degree eat up a lot of time that could otherwise be spent on fun pursuits. :-D

Googled and had never heard of them before. Moreover, I'm afraid I'm still too dense to understand the reference. However, I'll understand if you no longer wish to pursue the matter. My apologies.

My MkII was getting a bit long in the tooth, ...

Same here but I know I am a bit unique in that features like AF points, FPS, WiFi, even high ISP performance to some extent are far down on my "must have" list. I do almost all my shooting manual including manual focusing. I need sensor performance, low noise, high DR, decent pixel count. I looked hard at the 5DIII and it's a great camera but wouldn't really help me out much. Same with the 6Dc. I so thought that Canon was going to put in the 5DIV sensor or derivative into the 6DII but boy was I wrong.

And now we cross to an Australian Disaster. I'm in the process of building the subwoofer box that I've designed for a 12 inch driver I've measured parameters for. A stop on my router moved and let it skip past where it should be. And this happened:

Hours wasted, needed to walk away before something broke "accidently on purpose" I'll take a breather and start again tomorrow. I had already had the biscuit cuts ready for the other front panel too. Grrrrrrrrr.

Unless I can think of a way of filling the hole that can be re-routed.

It does have a lot less noise than the 5D2. I shot an event at our church earlier this year and rented a 5D4 and I was able to use my 100-400 indoors at f/7.1 or f/8 with decent shutter speeds (faster than 1/400 when I was at 400mm) at ISO 12800. The images had about the same amount of noise as the 5D2 at ISO 3200. The noise on the 5D4 at higher ISOs looks more like film grain than the noise on my 5D2 and 20D.

Ouch! I know some wood turners who would call that a "design opportunity." They would then need to quickly dodge whatever small thing I could find and lob in their general direction. Hopefully you can make version 2.0 without incident.

Try this (external link) stuff. It's amazing. Epoxy based and stronger than the wood it replaces. Very machinable and stable. Does not crumble like some other fillers.
