Great lookin Forcast. Love the sunny prediction. Working on getting four feet of snow here in the last couple of days. Sun would be nice, don't have to shovel it.:-D

I think we ended up with 5" of snow, the powdered type and you can clear with a broom. The temps are going to be brutal. My house is 97 years old and I know it's lacking in insulation. I'll be wearing layers.

Our house is a 1971 vintage. There's wall insulation, but it's minimal. We've got more than enough in the attic. Windows are the big problem, they're huge and odd sized, gonna cost a lot to replace. Wind is our nemesis. The geothermal heat pump will do fine unless the frost line gets rather deep, at that point we'll use electric as backup.

I don't know what they used in 1920 for insulation. My attic is great, though. The previous owners put a new foundation in but it by no means is airtight. I've gone around and sealed everything up. My biggest issue are the windows. Like you, they are odd sized and original with poured glass panes. They definitely are not weather sealed.
When the house was built, there was a fireplace in the living room, but that was removed years ago. I think I would be enjoying that at the moment. Right now it's a tepid -4f. Oh happy days!

We're sitting at -13C/8F at the moment. And the sun is shining, but it is diminishing fast as the breeze is starting to pick up. Snow streamers will start to come in off the lake.
We would be much colder if the lake was frozen, but with open water still, the temps are 'supposedly' being regulated. With this cold weather the lake is freezing up fast though, so if it continues, we could be in for a nice cold winter.

I replaced all the windows in my old house and it made a huge difference both in hot and cold weather. Below is a composite of replacing our kitchen window from start to finish.

Looks great. You did the work yourself which saved you a truckload of money. Sadly I'm not allowed to do this stuff anymore.
If I could, I would love to figure out a way to integrate the original poured glass panes into the new windows, but that would cost more than it's worth I'm afraid.

I figure I have one or two more houses in me. We have finished 3 and our TX one is almost done, just a few more things and it will be time to sell.

I survived the ride today. It was cold!! We didn't end up riding very far due to the high winds and poor visibility.
My 13 year old nephew Austin came along with me. He had lots of fun riding in the snow.

Driving home in white out conditions was the hairy part of the day.

Gracie left us today. She was an old gal and deaf, but she owned the place and let us know it. Charlie is sort of wandering around looking for her. This is one of my favorite images of her. It's going to be sort of quiet around here now without her grumbly meowing.

Thanks. We only had her a year and a half but she became "one of us" pretty quickly. My other cat Charlie is wandering around right now looking in all the places she liked. It's sad, but she wasn't doing well the last week. She's not suffering anymore.

We had a Yorkie, Gracie, who looked for the other one, Phoebe, until we buried her the next day. Gracie smelled her burial spot and never looked for her again.
